Monday: Latino anti-war marchers join immigrant rights hunger strikers
Joint event at Feinstein's office @ noon this Monday: 241-mile Latino war resisters march ends in San Francisco, joining up with the immigrant justice hunger strikers who are camped at the Federal Building all this week demanding human rights for undocumented people in the U.S.
While a 241-mile march has moved through the state...
Over 50 hunger strikers and organizations have started a seven-day protest in front of the Federal Building in San Francisco on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006. They are calling for fair and just immigration reform. They are denouncing Senator Arlen Specter’s bill that designates all undocumented immigrants as aggravated felons, allows for the indefinite detention of non-citizens, and criminalizes day-labor centers, churches, health clinics and all others who serve, help or work with undocumented immigrants. There will be candlelight vigils at the Federal Building every day through Sunday at 6:00pm, an action on Saturday at noon along with solidarity actions across the country, and a culminating march Monday to Feinstein's office. At 11 a.m. on Monday, the hunger strikers will march from the SF Federal Building to Feinstein's office, where they will be joined at noon by the anti-war marchers and allies, connecting the issues of war for empire abroad with the targeting of immigrant communities in the U.S. Come out for this event and support the power of communities in motion for justice!
On Monday, March 27th, a courageous group of Latino anti-war activists will
walk the final leg of their historic 241 mile march. We hope you will join
us in welcoming The March for Peace to the Bay Area, and if possible, will
join the march as it makes its way through Oakland and San Francisco.
The schedule on March 27th will be as follows:
7:30 am Fruitvale BART, Oakland
8:05 am Blessing at St. Elizabeth¹s on 34th Ave.
10:30 am Rally at Laney College (BART across Bay)
12 noon Montgomery & Market, SF‹Join Immigrant Rights Hunger Strike
3:15 pm Brief stop at Mission High School, 18th & Dolores
5 pm Dolores Park‹Culminating Ceremony
The March for Peace is a 241-mile march which aims to ensure that the Latino
voice for opposition to the war is heard across America. Fernando Suarez del
Solar, Pablo Paredes, Camilo Meija, and Aidan Delgado will lead marchers in
a quest for peace, which started from Tijuana, Mexico, on March 12th.
The march is passing through the Marine Corps Depot at Camp Pendleton to the
Cesar Chavez burial site in La Paz. The final day will include a noon hour
event with the Immigrant Rights Hunger Strike to oppose HR 4437, and will
end in the Mission District in San Francisco with a rally to commemorate
those killed in Iraq, including Jesus Suarez del Solar, who was killed in
Iraq exactly three years ago on March 27th.
Why are the marchers covering 241 miles? Cesar Chavez was a disciple of
Gandhi, who marched 241 miles to free India from British imperialism. His
salt march was one of the most important non-violent acts of protest and
civil disobedience in history.

OBJECTIVE: A 241 mile march that aims at ensuring that the Latino voice of opposition to the War is heard loud and clear across the Americas.
WHAT/ WHEN: Fernando Suarez del Solar, Pablo Paredes, Camilo Mejia and Aidan Delgado will lead a coalition of the willing across this 241 mile quest for peace starting in Tijuana, Mexico, going through Marine Corps Depot Camp Pendleton to the Cesar Chavez burial site in La Paz, CA, culminating in The Mission district of San Francisco with a memorial ceremony and blood drive.
The March will begin on 12 March 2006. The coalition of the willing will arrive at La Paz, CA on 22 March 2006 and culminate in San Francisco from 26 March 2006 to 27 March 2006.
WHY: Latinos represent nearly 15% of the US population and 11% of the US military, with many serving in combat or hazardous duty occupations. In addition, an estimated 20% of the fallen service members in the early months of the invasion were Latino. With the continued growth of the Latino population and its vital importance to the future of this country, it is time the Latino community become an active and vocal part of the 60%+ of US citizens that oppose this War. It is also time to show the Latino community that they have a voice and a right to fight for peace and stability. Fernando Suarez Del Solar is committed to self-sacrifice. At 50 years of age he cares more about ending this war than even his own health. We make this call not only to the Latino population but to all those who agree with our message 'No more bloodshed in Iraq'.
