DOLLAR STORES---BEWARE!!!! READ LABEL!!!!

I don't know if any of you watched Channel 5 News last night, but they did an
investigation on dollar stores (including Dollar Tree,). They discovered the
Crest, Colgate and other brand name toothpastes weren't the same as from
Wal-mart, grocery stores etc.

The toothpastes were manufactured in many other countries and are not
approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). There was even some from South
Africa and the fluoride is ten times stronger than what we're allowed in the U.S.
(prescription strength). They're allowed stronger because they don't have
fluoridated water (like we do). So if we (or our kids) use it often and
occasionally swallow it, we could be poisoning ourselves.

The dollar stores declined to comment and a full investigation has begun. So
stick to paying full-price at the grocery store and send this e-mail to anyone
who shops at dollar stores. For more information:

Sneak Attack on Arctic Refuge
Did you think the Oil industry and their friends in Congress would give up on their plan to drill in the Arctic Refuge? Think again.
There is an effort in Congress to designate funds from the drilling to Gulf Coast Restoration! By linking it to the budget, advocates have once again tried to sneak an unpopular measure through the legislative process.
Lucky for the caribou, we haven't given up either. The battle is far from over and the vote will be close, so make sure to take action and send a message to your Rep. telling them to VOTE NO:

Thimerosal linked to immune system ills (Mercury in Vaccinations)
http://www.indybay.org/news/2006/03/1809796.php

The vaccine component has been suspected in autism, but study is no 'smoking gun' to UCD expert.

In a study sure to fuel the controversy about the role of childhood vaccines in autism, scientists at UC Davis have found that a preservative used in some vaccines can disrupt the immune system, at least in mice. For full story:

British Navy Implicated in Whale Deaths - another mass stranding of beaked whales on the Spanish Mediterranean Coast in the province of Almeria. Veterinary pathologists reported this morning that anti-submarine active mid-frequency sonar used during a military exercise is the most likely cause of the strandings, which resulted in the death of four beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris, family Ziphiidae).

Patriot Act is unconstitutional.
Marbury V. Madison 1893: Any law that is repugnant to the constitution of the US
is NULL AND VOID

The NH House yesterday voted overwhelmingly to reject the Transportation Committee's recommendation of ITL and in a subsequent motion to pass HB 1582, forbidding any state agency from participating in any national ID requirement. The bill is succinct and to the point:

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six

AN ACT prohibiting New Hampshire from participating in a national identification card system.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Prohibition Against Participation in National Identification System. The general court finds that the public policy established by Congress in the Real ID Act of 2005, Public Law 109-13, is contrary and repugnant to Articles 1 through 10 of the New Hampshire constitution as well as Amendments 4 though 10 of the Constitution for the United States of America. Therefore, the state of New Hampshire shall not participate in a national identification card system; nor shall the department of safety amend the procedures for applying for a driver's license under RSA 263 or an identification card under RSA 260:21.

I encourage anyone who ever doubts that NH is truly the greatest state in the nation to go to:

# Third Annual Water Conservation Showcase to be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm. The event will be held at the Pacific Energy Center, 851 Howard Street in San Francisco. To attend the water showcase you must register at this website:
http://www.pge.com/pec/classes You will find the Water Showcase by selecting water efficiency as the Primary Topic category at this page.

The Water Conservation Showcase will provide information on water-conserving strategies for building designers, managers and operators through presentations and tabletop displays. This event is organized through the efforts of the Northern California Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council ( http://www.usgbc.org/Chapters/northerncalifornia ), East Bay Municipal Utility District (http://www.ebmud.com), Build-It Green ( http://www.builditgreen.org ) and The Pacific Energy Center.

Many experts believe that water will surpass energy as the most notorious and coveted resource in California. The state has experienced extended droughts in the past (the last one from 1987-1992), has grown in population by about 15% since the last drought, and has limited reserves in snow pack and reservoirs. These and the unpredictability of long-term precipitation levels place us in a constant state of anxiety about our future water supply. Some of the other issues contributing to the California water challenge include the fact that we dedicate about 75% of available water to agriculture and a large portion is diverted from northern California to our neighbors in the more arid south.

Water use also has significant energy implications. The California State Water Project that is responsible for moving water from sources to customers is the single largest user of energy in the state. Additional energy is required to heat, cool, pump and treat water. Reducing water use produces significant electricity and natural gas savings.

The showcase will include lectures by experts from state and local governments, water districts, research institutions and engineering firms. These talks will address recent research, new water policies, technological developments, and case studies for both commercial and residential building projects. The water-energy relationship will be included in several of the presentations. Here is the final schedule of speakers:

12:00 noon
Steve Macaulay, California Urban Water Agencies on "California Water History: How Did We Get to Where We Are Today?"
Or
Jim Riesenberger, TAS (Turbine Air Systems) on "Water-Efficient Cooling Towers"

1:30 pm
John Koeller of California Urban Water Conservation Council on "Verify Before You Buy: The Truth about Water-Efficient Products"
Or
Michael Thilgen of Four Dimensions Landscape Company on "Sustainable Landscaping: An Introduction to the Bay Friendly Landscape Guidelines"

3:00 pm
Gary Klein of the California Energy Commission on "California's Water-Energy Relationship"
Or
Ann Runley of Brookwater Inc. on "Water climbs to $100.00 a "barrel": Irrigation Design Strategies for Water Conservation"

4:30 pm
Mary Ann Dickinson of the California Urban Water Conservation Council on "New Directions in Water Efficiency Policy"
Or
David Zoldoske of The Fresno State Center for Irrigation Technology on "An Overview of Smart Water Application Technologies"

6:00 pm
Shahid Chaudhry of the California Energy Commission on "Sources of Future Supply in California and Potential Impacts on Energy Requirements"
Or
Patrick Freeman of Sherwood Design Engineers & Peter Haase of Fall Creek Engineering on "Water Conservation in Practice"

Recent studies estimate that up to one-third of California's current urban water use can be saved using existing technologies, many of which will be discussed at the presentations or displayed in the vendor area. The vendor displays will feature the latest cutting edge products, systems and services available to help Californians conserve and wisely manage this most abused and critical natural resource. Products in the showcase may include water-efficient fixtures, drought-tolerant landscaping, gray-water equipment, permeable pavement, drip irrigation, and rainwater harvesting systems. The list of vendors for this years showcase will include:

Accurate Weather Set, ACT Metlund, Advanced Cooling Tower Technologies, American Leak Detection, California Energy Commission, California Integrated Waste Management Board, California Native Grasslands Association, California Urban Water Conservation Council, Central Concrete, Delta Faucet, Dry Mix Products, Ecological Landscape Association, Evaporative Control Systems, Ewing Irrigation Products, Food Service Technology Center, Hunter Industries, Hydro Point Data Systems, Life Source Water Systems, Natural Systems , Netafim, Oratech Controls, INC, Rainbird, Rainmaster, Sani-floor, Signature Control Systems, StopWaste.org (Alameda County Waste Management Authority), Sustainable Solutions International, Toro, Toto, US EPA, Vortens, VRTX Technologies, The Waterless Company and Watermiser

Companies interested in participating as a vendor should contact Jennifer Love. Jen can be reached at Jen [at] BuildItGreen.org. A complete list of vendors will be published prior to the showcase.

To attend the water showcase you must register at this website:
http://www.pge.com/pec/classes You will find the Water Showcase by selecting water efficiency as the Primary Topic category on this page.

# Now you can share what you have learned. We are having an intro night in
San Francisco this Wednesday night. Bring your friends and anyone that
could benefit from learning Power Manifestation
Power Manifestation Intro Night Promotion

In this brief introductory course, you will be introduced to your Internal
Guidance System or IGS and Power Manifestation. When applying the
practical philosophy of Power Manifestation, creating what you want in
your life can be an effortless and joyous process. Using the IGS will
bring the power of discernment back into your hands, allowing you to make
powerful and effective choices to create the world around you. Power
Manifestation is a combination of quantum physics (as presented in the
film What the Bleep Do We Know?) and spiritual principles. This
combination reveals to us how the world operates through vibrational
frequencies. Our thoughts are vibrations, and every thought we have
creates a vibrational attractor field, which in turn creates our reality.
Through the universal Law of Attraction, we attract to us the vibration of
our thoughts as well as the intensity of what we are focused on. Using
this revolutionary process offered in the Power Manifestation courses, you
will learn to harness this power to create with clarity and ease. Power
Manifestation: The Intro Night Basics Course presents this philosophy and
offers you a unique combination of practices that enable you to know your
true desires and manifest them more quickly.
The Power Manifestation courses were created by Zen DeBrucke, who has
spent more than 15 years researching and studying the subject of
consciousness and manifestation. Zen has also been a successful business
executive and entrepreneur and has coached hundreds of business leaders
and individuals to success in every area of their lives.

The Films are FREE but $5 donations are accepted

9/11 THE ROAD TO TYRANNY Presented by Gypsy

This documentary by Alex Jones is very different from other
documentaries on 9/11. Alex Jones gives us a broader perspective on
the formation of the police state in the U.S. You will be blown away
by what you will see. The military stage fake terror attacks on our
citizens without letting people know that they are fake. It was done
in San Antonio, Texas, against the will of the Mayor. It was even
done here in Oakland. Alex also gives a detailed account of the
Oklahoma City bombing and the government cover up very similar to
that of the 9/11 cover up.

Before and after the film, everyone's invited to indulge in our

# Wed, Mar 22, 2006 11:00 pm THIRST Rebroadcast on Public TV
http://globalexchange.org/getInvolved/bayarea.php

We are happy to announce that our recent documentary THIRST, about communities resisting the takeover of their water by global corporations, will be re-broadcast on Bay Area public television station KQED-TV on World Water Day, March 22, at 11pm.

Is water part of a shared ‘commons’, a human right for all people? Or is it a commodity to be bought and sold in a global marketplace? THIRST tells the stories of communities in Bolivia, India and the USA that are asking these fundamental questions, as water becomes the most valuable resource of the 21st Century. This groundbreaking film reveals how efforts by powerful corporations to commodify the world’s water supplies have become a strong catalyst for community resistance to globalization.

Since THIRST was originally released, it has reached millions of people via broadcast, community screenings, college classrooms, and film festivals.

For a deeper look at the politics of World Water Day and the events in Mexico City, check out our article scheduled for publication in the San Francisco Chronicle’s Sunday Insight Section, March 19, 2006 – http://www.sfgate.com

THIRST, the movie, is available for purchase by individuals, community groups and institutions at Bullfrog Films – http://www.bullfrogfilms.com - or call toll free – 1-800-543-3764. Special discounts are available.

# Our Beautiful World is Dying march 23 6:00pm-10pm $0

This Beautiful World Is Dying
Artwork by Josh Barry
At the Seventh Heart
Opening Reception
March 23, 2006, 6-8 p.m.
Runs through March 6th-23rd

Slinky nymphs, lithe pixies and gorgeous mermaids are some of the
inhabitants of Josh Barry's altered universe encapsulated in This
Beautiful World Is Dying. They play and gesture, sucking the viewer
into their dying world. What is killing their world? Perhaps it is
heartache or worse, apathy. The entropic imagery in each work could
be an obvious reference to death, but in Barry's case entropy also
references life. The imagery is full of nostalgia for a better time,
a better world, or a world better left to the imagination.

Although Barry has created 15 pieces for the Seventh Heart gallery,
his work is truly conceptual. His stories are where his art
resides. These stories are taken from personal experiences but
portrayed by archetypal characters. The characters are delightful
and belie some of the difficult subject matter that inspires Barry's
artwork.

Josh Barry lives and works in San Francisco. He is originally from
Bermuda and has lived in San Diego and Chicago. All of the places he
has lived have affected his work. Barry has his BFA from the Windows
Arts Academy and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

# DAN MILLMAN
The Journey of Socrates
An All-New Seminar

Thursday, March 23rd
7:30 PM - 9 PM
plus Book Signing

In this one-of-a-kind talk, Dan will describe the lives and teachings of the four unusual masters who have influenced his life and work. Each mentor provided radically different kinds of instruction which together magically illuminate our shared yearnings and common quest. They include:

• The Headmaster: a Bolivian adept who created the finest spiritual school on Earth

• The Guru: an Awakener whose behavior offered a striking lesson

• The Warrior-Priest: an adventurer who opened doors to Dan's future

• The Sage: who revealed the simplest and highest teaching of all.

Dan will also provide an opportunity for all of us to gather together in community to honor and bless our own mentors and to appreciate how we each serve as mentors in ways practical and mysterious...

As always, Dan's presentation will blend insight, humor and practical wisdom.
The adventures he relates highlight the universal obstacles and lessons along the spiritual path -- and provide clues how to live a spiritual life in the material realm. Discover the wellsprings of the peaceful warrior's way and new sources of wisdom. Let Dan's teachers become your own, to awaken the peaceful heart and warrior spirit within us all.

Dan Millman is a former world champion gymnast, university coach, college professor and martial arts teacher. He is author of 12 best-selling books, including Way of the Peaceful Warrior, that have inspired millions of readers in 29 languages. His seminars and workshops continue to influence people from all walks of life. http://www.peacefulwarrior.com

Ritter & McGovern will sign copies of the new book "Neo-Conned" after the talk.
http://www.neoconned.info

SCOTT RITTER was the UN's top weapons inspector in Iraq between 1991 and 1998. Before working for the UN he served as an officer in the US Marines and as a ballistic missile adviser to General Schwarzkopf in the first Gulf war. He wrote the introduction to Neo-CONNED! Again, and will be signing copies immediately following the event.

FAIZA AL-ARAJI is a member of a delegation of Iraqi women visiting the US to educate Americans about the reality in Iraq and meet with UN and US officials to call for an end to the US military presence in their country. She is a civil engineer and blogger. She is a religious Shia with a Sunni husband, and mother of three. After one son was recently held as a political prisoner by the Ministry of the Interior, the family fled to Jordan. Her blog is afamilyinbaghdad.blogspot.com

RAY McGOVERN served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964 before working as a CIA analyst for 27 years. From 1981 to 1985 he conducted daily briefings for Ronald Reagan's vice president, George Bush, the father of our current president. MEDEA BENJAMIN is the co-founder of Global Exchange and Code Pink. She is powerful and charismatic human rights activist who has struggled for social justice for over 20 years. Ever since the tragic events of 9/11, Medea has been organizing against a violent response. In October 2002, she made national news for interrupting Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld as he pitched his plans for war against Iraq to Congress. After the invasion, she traveled several times to Iraq to organize Occupation Watch International Center in Baghdad. At the start of 2005, Medea accompanied a delegation of U.S. military families to the Iraqi/Jordanian border to bring a shipment of humanitarian aid for people in Falluja and those most in need.

# Fri. March 24, 7:30 p.m. Earth Charter Marin Protect our Living Oceans
When the Whales Stopped Singing: The Impact of Human-Made Noise in the Ocean. George Taylor, Board President of Seaflow.
"The ocean is not quiet. Whales, dolphins and other ocean life are put at risk as humans invade the ocean with noises made by commercial and military technology. Off shore oil drilling, Navy sonar systems and diesel engines are just a few of the noise-making technologies which affect the delicate acoustic environment in the Ocean. The biggest new problem in the ocean-noise issue is that the oil industry, to find deposits in the outer continental shelf, wants to survey with an incredibly loud seismic air-gun system, which disrupts fish stock and whales for up to twenty hours at a time."

# Mind Strata: The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Sex

MIND STRATA: THE ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SEX, NEW MULTIMEDIA
WORKS BY BRYAN HEWITT, VITA MEI HEWITT, PETER FOUCAULT, LAUREN SCIME,
JUSTIN HOOVER AND SAMANTHA SHERRY WILL BE SHOWING AT THE GARAGE FROM
SATURDASY, MARCH 25 - SATURDAY, APRIL 29, 2006.

This is an exhibition which brings together a collection of artists
who have been asked to make new works which deal with inherited
social baggage. The specific focus is on the artists' reactions to
the mid-20th century attitudes towards sex and sexuality that have
been passed down to them as received wisdom. This group of artists
chooses not to treat them as such, but rather to mine them as a rich
territory for criticism, re-evaluation, and amusement.
Mind Strata is a group of Bay Area artists that formed in 2006 to
carry out a series of conceptually based exhibitions. Upcoming shows
include Mind Strata: The Collision Point at the Works San Jose in
September 2006, and Mind Strata: Office Dreams, which is currently on
view at the I Magnin Building
(2001 Broadway) in downtown Oakland.
The artist reception will be held on Saturday, March 25th from
6-11p.m. It is free and open to the public.

# Venezuela from Below - a film by Oliver Ressler & Dario Azzellini
Screening & Panel Discussion

Monday, March 27, 7:00 PM
New College Theater
777 Valencia St, San Francisco

Panelists:
Oliver Ressler - Artist and co-director of the documentary film Venezuela from Below
Dario Azzellini - Writer and political analyst, and co-director of the documentary film Venezuela from Below
Chris Gilbert - MATRIX Curator

In Venezuela, a profound social transformation identified as the Bolivarian process has been underway since Hugo Chávez's governmental takeover in 1998. It concerns a broad process of self organization, from which has developed a progressive constitution, a labor law, new educational possibilities, and a number of further reforms for the impoverished majority of the population of what is potentially a wealthy state.

In Venezuela from Below by Dario Azzellini and Oliver Ressler (2004; 67 min), the true actors in the social process are able to speak: workers from the oil company PDVSA, farmers from a newly founded cooperative in Aragua, loan recipients from the 23 de Enero barrio in Caracas, indigenous community members from the Orinoco river valley, and others. These are the people of the grassroots and they speak about what they did and what they are doing, how they feel about the Bolivarian process, and about their expectations and ideas in the search for a social and economic model beyond neo-liberalism. Following the screening, panelists will engage in discussion with the audience and each other about this film and Azzelini and Ressler's new video project about the on-going movement toward worker-controlled enterprises in Venezuela.

Topics to be covered are waste, household chemicals, energy, transportation, water and community.

Wednesday, March 29, 7:00 PM
Roxie Cinema
3117 16th Street (between Valencia & Guerrero), San Francisco

$ 8 - General Admission / $ 4 - Students

“Leona's Sister Gerri” (1995), is an award winning film by Jane Gillooly.
This film tells the dramatic story of Gerri Santoro, a mother of two and the "real person" in the now famous photo of an anonymous woman on a motel floor, dead from an illegal abortion. Reprinted thousands of times on placards, and in the media, this grisly photo became a pro-choice icon.

“The Last Abortion Clinic” (2005)
Written, produced and directed by Raney Aronson-Rath.
The New York Times said "...'The Last Abortion Clinic,' gives a lucid picture of how the anti-abortion movement in states like Mississippi has worked so many hurdles into local laws that abortions are almost unattainable for poor women."

If you care about this issue NOW is the time to get involved.
Abortion has already been banned in South Dakota. Who’s next?
