Greetings!
Michael Chertoff is the Secretary of the Department
of Homeland Security. He will speak
on “Strengthening Preparedness and Partnerships in
Homeland Security” in S.F tomorrow at the
Commonwealth Club (This event was just
announced yesterday). “Secretary Chertoff will
defend
his agency’s response to Katrina and Rita and outline
the responsibilities of federal, state and local
governments when disaster strikes the U.S. He is also
expected to discuss the safety of U.S. ports”

It's an outrage they are sending him here.
When a criminal of this magnitude visits to justify and
defend the Bush Regime's massive crimes, he
deserves a fitting welcome. It's an outrage they are
sending him here. This is a time to resist.



As a leader of the so called “War on Terror,” Chertoff
is really acting on a license for a war against the
people. We are seeing the racist disregard for the
African American people of New Orleans and
the Gulf Coast before, during, and ever since Katrina,
especially now as this week thousand of
refugees are being evicted from their FEMA
housing. The
perpetrator of these towering crimes now comes to
San Francisco on the heels of these evictions to
justify and explain this seemingly calculated murder
and foul treatment of people that has bordered on
ethnic cleansing.

Chertoff's department of "Homeland Security =
American Gestapo" oversees the FBI as it locks
people up indefinitely without Attorneys, the spying
without warrants, the Border Patrol's foul treatment
of poor migrant workers and the ICE’s (formerly INS)
despicable immigration polices including the notorious
special registration interrogations and unfair
deportations.



The Department of Homeland Security is carrying out
the war on terror, suspending the basic rights of
people, destroying international norms of human
rights and the Bill of Rights.

This past October and January in New York City, an
unprecedented people’s Commission of Inquiry on
Crimes Against Humanity by the Bush Administration
(http://www.bushcommission.org) took place. Nationally-
known whistleblowers, expert witnesses, and victims
of the Bush polices presented rigorous and dramatic
evidence on war, torture, global environment, global
health programs, and the abandonment of New
Orleans. It found the Bush Administration guilty of
war crimes and crimes against humanity.

CINDY SHEEHAN:
An internationally known activist whose son, Army
Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq, she is a
founder of Gold Star Families for Peace. Sheehan: “I
have had time to reflect on the experience, the state
of our union and its descent into a fascist
state...George Bush has committed crimes against
humanity and high crimes and misdemeanors in his
tenure as (P)resident of the White House. Has he
been held accountable for any of this? No...”.




RAY MCGOVERN:
Retired CIA analyst. In 2003, McGovern founded
Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS).
McGovern: “This Commission is doing what our
German forbearers in the 1930s did NOT do. They sat
around, blamed their rulers, said 'maybe everything's
going to be alright.' “ On March 3rd, 2006, Ray
marched into Congress with 15 others wearing
Guantánamo Bay orange jumpsuits and declared: "As
a matter of conscience, I am returning the
Intelligence Commendation Award medallion given me
during my 27-year career in the CIA. The issue is
torture, which inhabits the same category as rape
and slavery - intrinsically evil. I do not wish to be
associated, however remotely, with an agency
engaged in torture."



LARRY EVEREST:
Journalist and author of Oil, Power, and Empire: Iraq
and the U.S. Global Agenda. “There is no ‘war on
terror.’ The invasion and occupation of Iraq are not
part of a ‘war on terror’.....What does exist is a
horrific and criminal U.S. war OF terror against the
people of the world for greater empire.” Everest has
covered the Middle East and Central Asia for over 20
years for Revolution newspaper and other
publications. He reported from Palestine during the
first Intifada, Iran shortly after the revolution that
toppled the Shah in 1979, and in Iraq in 1991.
