Dear Anti-Sweatshop Activists of the Bay Area,
SWEATFREE BERKELEY COALITION
First meeting Tomorrow! Please invite others you know from Berkeley, especially if you yourself cannot make it.
Tuesday, March 14th
3:30 - 5:30 PM
Greenlining Institute
1918 University Ave, 2nd floor.(between MLK St and Milvia)
A few blocks from the downtown Berkeley BART station.
Parking: There is a parking garage across the street under UC Extension, at 1919 University. Also there's a garage across from the Berkeley Repertory Theater (which is around the corner). There is also street (metered) parking.
BACKGROUND:
San Francisco unanimously passed a Sweatfree ordinance in September
2005 with $100,000 enforcement funding - the strongest anti-sweatshop law in
the country! As we begin to implement this ordinance, the Bay Area
Sweatfree Coalition is moving forward to Berkeley. Please help us organize
a strong coalition to convince the City of Berkeley that this is an
important step for the city and for the anti-sweatshop movement nationally.
As more and more cities pass these ordinances, the enforcement costs may go
down as the scale increases and the cities leverage their purchasing power.
