Jared Huffman Wins Prized Sierra Club Endorsement
in Bid for California's 6th Assembly District Seat

The Sierra Club has awarded its influential stamp of approval to Jared Huffman's bid for state Assembly.

In Marin County, the Sierra Club endorsement has been deemed the most influential endorsement, with estimates of over 30% of voters favorably influenced by it. Still greater influence is anticipated in the Democratic Party primary, as registered Democrats are more likely to be influenced by the Sierra Club endorsement.

The Sierra Club endorsement process for the 6th state Assembly district seat began with questionnaires due in January and interviews of all declared candidates on January 29th. Because the district includes parts of both Sonoma County as well as all of Marin County, the interview process included participation by members of the Sonoma Group as well as members of the Marin Group.

Since the endorsement is for a statewide office, the recommendation by local groups must be confirmed at several levels of the Sierra Club organization, including the political committees and executive committees of the local chapters under which local groups operate, and the political and executive committees of the state chapter.

"We felt Jared Huffman to be the outstanding candidate for this seat, " said the Sierra Club's Marin Group Chair, Gordon Bennett. "His questionnaire responses and his interview were both exceptionally strong; exemplary, in fact."

"Jared Huffman has a proven track-record on environmental issues," added Alex Forman, the Marin Group's Political Committee Chair. "We also feel that he has the connections and professional traits that will make him an effective legislator. We feel that Jared Huffman will be around for a while, and that he has the potential for upward mobility," said Forman.

"The Sierra Club is strongly encouraging support of Jared Huffman's campaign.," said Bennett. "We hope people will go out of their way to support the Huffman campaign, and that they will get out to vote for Jared Huffman in this June's Democratic primary."
