Between Heaven and Earth: Mujeres, Madres, y Damas Speak on La Virgen de Guadalupe.
Based on two years of ethnographic work among three generational cohorts of working class women this
lecture explores the social constructions of La Virgen de Guadalupe in Chicana/Mexicana thought. Who is
Guadalupe for these women? Is she Mary of Nazareth, the mother of Jesus, in the image and likeness of an
indigenous woman?
