Attend the FAULT LINES GENERAL MEETING:
THURSDAY, March 2 at 7 pm
At the Bay Area Independent Media Center (2940 16th St. Suite 216 @ Capp, one block from 16th/Mission BART)

Are your Thursday nights painfully free? Do you look at the news and wonder why the issues you really care about are never mentioned? Are you finally ready to do something about it? Come on down to the Fault Lines general meeting and get started!

Fault Lines, the news magazine of the San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center, aims to give all communities the opportunity to actively participate in the collective process of media production and distribution. Previously a monthly newspaper, Fault Lines is shifting to a bi-monthly news magazine format. Thursday, March 2 is the next meeting, and also the first for the next issue- a great time to step in and start helping out.

Become a part of making Fault Lines happen by volunteering as much time as you have to offer. We are a 100% volunteer operation and can use all the help we can get. If you’re not sure what you can do to help, just get in touch with us and we’ll plug you into something that suits your availability and interests. Experience is helpful but not required- we offer skill-share sessions to get you going in everything from Graphic Design to news writing.

We need help in every aspect of the paper:

Distribution: A great way to get started is by handing out Fault Lines to people and stores in your own community, helping distribute to our regular places, or by adding a prominently displayed rack of Fault Lines to your shop/club/backyard/store/co-op.

Editorial: Work with and find writers to develop cutting edge, socially conscious features for Fault Lines. Wield the mighty red pen and help copy-edit each article before print, help conceive themes for each issue and create hilarious, attention grabbing headlines and captions.

Design: Use Quark XPress or Adobe Illustrator to lay out the news magazine. Skill share workshops lead by experienced graphic designers teach newcomers the programs and skills to lay out the pages.

Art: Submit your cartoons, photos, or illustrations. Help us secure original artwork for stories and work with photographers.

Advertising: Our super-discount prices practically sell the ads themselves, but Fault Lines still needs help paying the bills each month. Tell all your favorite stores about advertising in a publication they can feel good about.

Public Outreach: Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations and non-profits, act as a community representative for Fault Lines, and help get people hyped about Indy Media. Also help by tabling at events or and set up raging benefit parties and shows.

A collective that cares: Working with the Fault Lines collective is a great way to network within your community, meet like-minded folk, and learn valuable media skills. We are the people, we are the media, and we are dissenting from the ground up!
