'JUST US' Action to Respond to SCPD Internal Investigation
Say No! to police spying, to their flawed investigation, and to the SCPD hasty-assembled one-page policy that justifies their violations of your civil liberties.
Dear Friends:
This really is serious - civil liberties and the exercise of constitutional rights are on the line right here at home, in Santa Cruz, right now
Please join 'Just Us' in responding to the report released by the Santa Cruz Police Department about their undercover spying of the Last Night parade planning group, in which they conclude they did nothing wrong and can do it again!
Monday, Feb 13th
2PM - rally! bring your instruments to join the Santa Cruz Trash Orchestra!
2:30 PM - press conference!
4PM - the Public Safety Committee of the City Council will receive the report from SCPD, take public comment, discuss their findings, and MAKE A RECOMMENDATION TO THE FULL CITY COUNCIL ABOUT WHAT THE NEXT STEP SHOULD BE!. We have presented a strongly worded policy from the San Francisco PD as a model and asked that action at least as strong be taken here in Santa Cruz!!
Tuesday, Feb 14
3:30 PM - the full City Council will consider the recommendation from the Public Safety Committee, and recommendations from the public. This is an agendized item and public comment will be taken. What more could you ask for for Valentine's Day than the assurance that your constitutional rights will be honored and protected right here in your home town!!
PLEASE COME or send your comments NOW to:

In spite of Bob Aaronson the SC Police Auditor, declaring the internal investigation complete horseshit, the issue of police spying is still on the City Council agenda. The Brown Act precludes the Council from making last minute changes to the agenda. However, there is little for the council to discuss.
But, it is an opportunity for the public to make their views known to the full council how they feel about police spying.
The Sentinel article today, naturally, did not talk about the most interesting aspect of the released internal investigation. That police spying is more extensive than originally reported.
I'll still be down there to tell the full city council why they should act now to prevent police spying.
