KFOG Morning Show Serves Liberal Hypocrisy to San Francisco
On yesterday’s KFOG Morning Show, host Dave Morey and his colleagues had a good time poking fun at Supervisor Daly’s resolution calling for the impeachment of President Bush. The group lampooned the resolution’s capacity to achieve its goal, asked why San Francisco did not wait for a “larger” liberal city like New York City or Los Angeles to move first, and wondered why the Supes were not focusing on homelessness and other city problems instead of spending time on a national issue. But why is the supposedly liberal Morey criticizing those speaking out against injustice? Does KFOG believe that its “Fogheads” do not care about illegal spying? Or was Morey, who regularly has Mayor Newsom on as a guest, trying to help the Mayor by making his political opponents look bad? Whatever the reasons, KFOG’s belittling of those trying to hold a rogue President accountable is inexcusable.
Those under 35 may have trouble believing this, but there once was a time in the San Francisco Bay Area where commercial radio stations encouraged those who fought injustice on a local, state or national level. KSAN radio, which was once housed on Market Street between 6th and 7th Streets, epitomized this combination of alternative music and progressive politics until the station was taken over by corporate forces in the late 1970’s.
