"Iran, Eye of the Storm"
Dr. Parsa Benab & Dr. Morteza Mohit
Dr. Benab & Dr. Mohit will discuss the geo-strategic importance and future of Iran and the characteristics and nature of the resistance to any outside intervention.
Iran is at least six to 10 years away from a nuclear bomb, by most estimates. The crisis is not even a crisis. The U.S. will not solve the nuclear problem by threatening military strikes or by dragging Iran before the U.N. Security Council. Although a vast majority of Iranians despise the country's hard-liners and wish for their downfall, they also support its nuclear program because it has become a source of pride for an old nation with a glorious history.
* When the U.S. denounces the Islamic Republic of Iran, why don't progressive movements within Iran support U.S. intervention?
* Who is in favor of intervention, and why? What will happen if the U.S. tries to expand its program of "democratic" occupation across the Middle East?
