Falun Gong is an extreme right-wing group. They support the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through their daily Chinese Language Newspaper. Their current focus is on anti-communism. This is a bizzare political-religious cult led by a former Chinese army trombone player named Li Hongzhi, who was granted asylum in the United States. Master Li teaches that all homosexuals, communists, and critics of Falun Gong will be killed in the coming armeggedon between Falun Gong and its enemies. They have a campaign in Chinatown, SF, to beat-up any critics they encounter. Master Li is a "high-level" god. He is not a mortal human, like us. Master Li claims the ability to time-travel, he can do remote viewing, mind reading, he once walked through the Greta wall of cghina, and he is, of course, immortal. The purpose of FLG's desire to march in the parade is to attack the other groups. FLG believes the parade is a Communist front for the Peoples Republic of China. The PRC is Master Li's nemesis. I oppose allowing a group like FLG in the Chinatown march. Their purpose is to press their facist agenda, not celebrate the New Tear.
Here's some other info on Falun Gong from a cult watch website. It appears even the Taoists aren't to thrilled with Falun Gong loosely borrowing from their ancient indigenous religion;

After being handed a Falun Gong newspaper it was apparent that their political outlook was rabidly anti-communist and anti-worker. They used some derogatory terms to describe lower income people who participated in the early stages of the people's revolution in China..
There are also some ideas that Falun Gong is working closely with the CIA to sow discord between the people of the US and China. Always helps to have an imaginary enemy overseas for another cold war. For the moment, the Bush regime seems to be getting along quite well with the leadership of the Chinese government. Meanwhile workers in China's sweatshops slave away while workers in US Wal-marts are denied health benefits. Since China joined the WTO, trade relations between the two capitalist superpowers have never been friendlier. Big box corporations like Wal-mart enjoy the financial benefits of China's repression of workers and sweatshop factories that provide Wal-mart with plastic products. Modern day China is hardly communist in deed, and most definitely NOT pro-worker. In this sense the Chinese government may have more in common with Falun Gong then they let on..

Human rights violations from the Chinese government are not limited to the Falun Gong practitioners, yet somehow these Falun Gong folks grab the human rights spotlight every time while Chinese workers continue to suffer and slave in sweatshops making products for Wal-mart. Then there's the forced relocation and flooding of farmer's landspace by the construction of the Three Gorges dam on the Yangtze River. The electricity from the dam is used to power the sweatshop factories that make products for export to US corporations like Wal-mart..

And this
"...Falun Gong is working closely with the CIA to sow discord between the people of the US and China."
Seems entirely plausible
