Bay Area Relocalize: Preparing for the End of Cheap Oil A special event at the Ecology Center 2530 San Pablo Avenue (near Dwight Way), Berkeley, CA 94702 Thursday, February 16th, 2006 - 7:00 – 9:00 pm In response to the growing concerns around climate change and the end of cheap oil, Post Carbon Institute has launched an exciting new project called Bay Area Relocalize. The project is assessing our region's use of resources and developing a model for local communities to bring the production of our food, energy and essential goods closer to home. We are connecting with neighborhoods, businesses, and community groups to mobilize around reducing our consumption of resources from outside the region and replacing them with local resources. Examples include creating community gardens, installing solar panels on homes and businesses, capturing rainwater, improving public transit, and building affordable homes nearer to where we work. This 2-hour, public event will feature a panel of presenters from the project and Q&A. This is a benefit for Bay Area Relocalize and The Ecology Center. Requested donation of $5-20 (sliding scale). No one turned away for lack of funds. For more information, please call (510) 548-2220 x233. |
