Steve Kubby Welcome Home Reception
When: Thursday, January 26, 2006 8:00 PM
Where: San Francisco International Airport, Alaska Airlines Terminal 1 (NOT the International Terminal)
Why: San Francisco medical cannabis patients, caregivers and their supporters welcome back from Canada, Steve Kubby, a Drug War political prisoner, and former Libertarian candidate for California governor, to the 'City of Sanctuary' for medical marijuana. We ask that you stand with Steve, when he arrives at SFO, in a display of support in his continuing battle with Placer County officials.
Steve has a rare adrenal cancer -- pheochromocytoma -- with tumors causing deadly amounts of adrenaline to enter his blood stream. Having been diagnosed over 20 years ago, Steve is the longest survivor of pheochromocytoma. He's only alive because he's been using medical cannabis, which helps control the adrenaline levels in his blood stream. Placer County wants to put him in jail for 120 days, after he was prosecuted for growing his medical cannabis, but that could be a death sentence for Steve.
The Canadian courts denied Steve Kubby refugee status and ordered him to leave the country, claiming there's no evidence he won't be allowed medical cannabis in jail, despite the fact that there are no jails in California that allow medical cannabis patients to use their medication.
