Thank you -- and show your support for the Milk Club this Wed. night

by And Castro for All

Where: State Building 455 Golden Gate (basement)) Between Polk & Larkin
Time: 7 PM Full Committee Milk Club recharter vote
Thank you to everyone who came to the mediation party last night! It was great
seeing everyone from the picket line. We may have traded in our bullhorns for
champagne glasses for a little while last night, but our work isn't done. In the
next few weeks, we'll being sending out information about AC4A's next projects --
and ways we can all work together to build a more inclusive community.

In the meantime, here's some impotant news from the Harvey Milk Club, which has been
unwavering in the their support for our struggle from the very beginning.

Support the rechartering of the Harvey Milk Club this Wed. night at the DCCC meeting!

This Wednesday, the local Democratic party DCCC will consider whether to re-charter
the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club.

For decades, the Harvey Milk Club has been a leader in promoting progressive
leadership in San Francisco and within the Democratic Party. However, there have
been some nonpartisan races in which the candidate most reflective of the Democratic
values we hold dear was not a Democrat. Many of you may remember that the Milk Club
endorsed Matt Gonzalez over Gavin Newsom in the December, 2003 Mayors runoff and
Mark Sanchez (along with two Dem?s) for school board in 2004. In these cases, we
believed our actions were principled and represented our party?s platform far better
than the "Democratic" alternatives.

In the Spring, 2004 primary, some currently elected DCCC members signed onto
"loyalty oath" which basically said that they would vote against rechartering any
Dem club that had endorsed non-Dem candidates in a non-partisan race. We believe
those DCCC members who currently object to the Milk Club's rechartering are
attempting to enact this "pledge" which is, in part, an effort to retaliate against
the Milk Club for these past actions and an attempt to kick us out of the party.

We are asking our allies and coalition partners to please join us Wednesday night to
show support in insuring there remains a progressive and inclusive voice within the
Democratic Party.
