Protest Against Senator Hillary Clinton's Support For The War In Iraq
On Saturday January 28th Senator Hillary Clinton of New York will sit down with Jane Pauley at The Bar Association of San Francisco Special Benefit Event at the Masonic Center. While using San Francisco as a backdrop for Clinton's re-election campaign, the event is an opportunity for Bay Area Democrats to dish-out $75.00 - $300.00 to attend at 7:00pm no-host reception followed by an evening of political image makeover chit-chat with Pauley and Clinton.
Join us, for a lively rally as we say HILLARY YOU'RE NOT LISTENING; STOP SUPPORTING THE WAR.
In a recent fundraising letter for her upcoming senatorial re-election campaign Hillary Clinton claims: "Part of my job is being a good listener...." She goes on to describe all the good listening she does in her job as our United States Senator and then states, "Now I'd like to listen to you." Included with the fundraising appeal is a three-page 2005 Critical National Issues Survey that covers a broad range of political issues---but never ONCE mentions the war in Iraq.
If her voting record on Iraq weren't bad enough (*see below for details) a few days after Representative John Murtha (D-PA) bravely called for the redeployment of troops currently in Iraq, Hillary offered this response: an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would be "a big mistake."
Let's be outside to let Hillary know we're following her. And this is only the beginning.
*Hillary's record:
1) October, 2002: Clinton voted YES on House Joint Resolution 114, "to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq." The measure passed the Senate 77-23.
2) April, 2003: Clinton voted YES on Senate measure 762, "to make supplemental appropriations to support Dept. of Defense operations in Iraq, Dept. of Homeland Security and Related Efforts for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2003."
3) Oct., 2003: Clinton voted YES on Senate measure 1689, "to appropriate $87 billion to fund ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. $65.6 billion of which is designated for military operations."
4) June, 2004: Clinton voted YES on Senate measure 2400, "to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2005 activities of the Dept. of Defense," including $25 billion in emergency funding for military operations in Iraq.

In addition to those votes:
a) In Feb., 2005 she made the somewhat dubious statements that much of Iraq was functioning well, that elections there had succeeded and that the insurgency was failing (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=515943).
b) In Feb., 2005, she said the US should not set a deadline for troop withdrawal because it would "play into the hands of the insurgents."

c) In July 2005, she called for increasing the size of the army by 80,000 soldiers. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8573139/
d) On Nov. 30, 2005, in advance of Bush's major policy speech on Iraq, Clinton issued her own letter on the war. Go to

Angry activists set to hound Hil
Tuesday, December 6th, 2005
WASHINGTON - Anti-war activists furious with Sen. Hillary Clinton are vowing to bird-dog her everywhere she goes, starting with a swanky Manhattan fund-raiser tonight. Clinton's letter last week clarifying her position on Iraq - which included rejecting a timetable for withdrawal -fanned the anger of some war opponents, who decided to launch a campaign against New York's junior senator.
"We're calling it Bird-Dog Hillary," said Medea Benjamin of the peace group Codepink.
"I'm so mad at her," said Nancy Kricorian, Codepink's New York City coordinator. "We will dog her wherever she goes."
Kricorian's group and several others plan to show up tonight at Crobar in Manhattan, where former President Bill Clinton is the top draw at a fund-raiser for his wife.
The idea is to have protesters tail the senator around the state and the country in hopes of persuading her to oppose the war.
Protesters from the group interrupted a Clinton speech Saturday in Chicago and an unrelated group demonstrated at her appearance Friday at a Democratic fund-raiser in Kentucky.
Codepink is also organizing a bigger rally for Dec. 20, when Clinton heads to San Francisco for a bar association benefit and an interview session with Jane Pauley.
Although she criticized President Bush's handling of the war in her letter, her no-timetable stance particularly peeved the activists.
"Stop waffling, and let's work on bringing the troops home," said Bill Dobbs of United for Peace. Dobbs and Benjamin predicted Clinton or any Democrat would lose a White House bid in 2008 if they run on a pro-war platform.
Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf said Clinton has little to fear from anti-war activists, as long as she looks deliberative. "The right wing and the left wing both want to move her to the left. She can't let them do that," Sheinkopf said.
Clinton's office stood by her letter yesterday.
"In her letter, Senator Clinton laid out a thoughtful explanation to her constituents of her position on Iraq," said spokesman Philippe Reines.

Why is Senator Clinton coming to California? I wrote her an e-mail condemning her support of the war and drift to the right which I feel is counter productive if she wants to keep her traditional supporters behind her. The response I received is that Senator Clinton does not respond to citizens outside of the state of New York.
If she is uninterested in what citizens of other states think why come here? It will have to be some absolutely horrible republican candidate running against her in some future presidential election to get my vote. Unfortunately, that is probably not too hard to come by but I just wish that there might be some leader with a vision to emerge to inspire the electorate. I don't think Senator Clinton is that person.

Senator Clinton,
As Oregon veterans and members of military families we are concerned with your fundraising trip to Oregon on two counts; your strong support for the immoral war in Iraq and your plan to take Oregon donations that are needed elsewhere.
Many of us are decorated combat veterans who have experienced the pain and loss of war. While we support a strong defense and an aggressive pursuit of Al Qaeda, we view the war in Iraq as a diplomatic disaster for our country, a drain on our treasury, and an unnecessary waste of American and Iraqi lives. The fact that you continue to align yourself with the Bush war is disturbing. Most other Democrats in congress who did not oppose the war from the
beginning now admit that they made a mistake in voting for the war or have begun to side with those like Representative Murtha who are calling for an organized pull-out. While we appreciate your concern that we not abandon the Iraqi people since our President created this mess, our experience leads us to believe we must consider this as damage that has already been inflicted. Whatever happens will happen whenever we leave, now or later, just as in Viet Nam. We urge you to reassess your position on Iraq and join the rest of your party in opposing this blot on American history. We stand at a critical point in our democracy. It is vital that we take back control of the U.S. House and the Senate. In Oregon we also need to wrest control of the Oregon House from Republicans so they do not continue to block adequate funding for schools and health care for low income Oregonians. Instead of helping fellow Democrats support these efforts you are holding a fund raiser here in Oregon for your own election in New York. Since you have significant cash resources and face a weak opponent the effect is to remove political contributions that should be directed to those who truly need them.
We urge you to donate the entire amount of funds that you raise here to support the Democratic Party of Oregon or to help those candidates who need all of our support in the battle to win back the House and Senate. As veterans we are particularly interested in seeing support go to those courageous individuals like Iraqi veterans Paul Hackett in Ohio, double-amputee Tammy Duckworth in Illinois, and Paul Evans in Oregon who will replace Republicans if they win.
We yearn for the peace and prosperity and the respect for individual rights that existed when you and your husband were in the White House. We yearn for leadership that will help end this nightmare we live in today. Senator Clinton; provide that leadership!
