Come hear Cristina Vasquez Gutierrez report back from her recent visit to Caracas, Venezuela. Cristina is a member of Hands Off Venezuela and a longtime activist in antiwar and social justice causes. She will offer an eyewitness account of the dramatic social and political changes in Venezuela.
In addition, we will show a 30 minute documentary film, “Enter the Oil Workers” (see description below). A discussion period will follow.
The Bolivarian Revolution: Enter the Oil Workers! (2005, 34 minutes)
Directed by Selma Jones & Nina Lopez
Produced by the Bolivarian Circle of the Global Women’s Strike
In these unique interviews, oil workers – women and men – tell how and why they saved their industry from a CIA-backed coup, how they see their struggle in relation to other working class people in the world, and how they are organizing with the community and the military to “put the oil industry at the service of humanity”.
Cost: $5/$3 Students, Seniors, Unemployed
WhyWe're Doing This: This is a benefitfor Hands off Venezuela. We in HOV stand to build a movement that can thwart the US government’s plans of aggressionagainst Venezuela. So far the UShas backed a coup and an electoral referendum against the government of HugoChavez. The USgovernment does not speak for the people of this country when it tries toimpose its will on the people of another country. Join us to help build thismovement to defend Venezuela.
