Iran Bans CNN for News Distortion
TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) -- The Foreign Press Department of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance issued a statement on Monday announcing a ban on the activities of the U.S. Cable News Network (CNN) in Iran.
“Due to the measures taken by CNN in recent years in violation of professional ethics and in view of its recent measure in distorting Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s remarks on Saturday, the activities of this network in Iran will come to a halt until further notice,” the statement read.
“Any revision in the decision depends upon assessments of the network’s future performance in covering news related to Iran,” the statement said.
A CNN interpreter distorted President Ahmadinejad’s statement during a press conference on Saturday by quoting him as saying, “the use of nuclear weapons is Iran's right."
The president, talking to reporters, had said that the peaceful use of nuclear “energy” is Iran’s undeniable right.
