BARBARA BECNEL - Death Penalty Abolitionist - (Barbara Becnel co-wrote childrens books with crips gang co-founder Stanley “Tookie” Williams, who was recently executed after being denied clemency by Gov. Schwarzenegger). JELLO BIAFRA -Spoken Word Artist/Musician - (Jello Biafra is the former lead singer of the seminal punk band The Dead Kennedys. He has stood for public office twice, once as a candidate for SF Mayor against Diane Feinstein in 1979, and in 2000 he sought the Green Party Presidential Nomination ultimately won by Ralph Nader.) TODD CHRETIEN - California US Senate Candidate - (Todd Chretien is an organizer with the ISO and the current Green Party candidate for Senate against Dianne Feinstein. He is running on a peace platform, “One Million Votes for Peace”.) MATT GONZALEZ - Frm. SF Supervisor - (Matt Gonzalez is the former Green Party president of the SF Board of Supervisors who narrowly lost the SF Mayor’s race in 2003, winning over 47% fo the vote.) JACK HIRSCHMAN - San Francisco Poet Laureate - (Jack Hirschman is SF’s new Poet Laureate. He is the author of over 80 books, and has translated another 60 titles from 11 different languages. He has a PhD from Indiana University at Bloomington, and has taught at Dartmouth and UCLA.) SARAH LIPSON - Green Party School Bd. Member - (Sarah Lipson is a school teacher who holds the distinction of being the first member of the Green Party to win a city-wide election in San Francisco. She is widely regarded as an expert in education matters.) JONATHAN RICHMAN - Singer / Songwriter / Activist - (Jonathan Richman is the former lead singer of The Modern Lovers. He is a singer-songwriter and will be reading from a translation of "Pier Paolo Pasolini" which is currently being prepared for publication by City Lights Books.) DAISY ZAMORA - Nicaraguan Poet - (Daisy Zamora is a military veteran of the Nicaraguan Revolution who later served as Vice-minister of Culture under Ernesto Cardenal. Her recent books have been published by City Lights Books and Curbstone Press.) KEVIN ZEESE - Maryland US Senate Candidate - (Kevin Zeese is an Independent candidate for US Senate in Maryland. He is the former press spokesman for the Nader-Camejo presidential ticket and serves as president of Common Sense for Drug Policy and as the Director of Democracy Rising which is devoted to ending the war in Iraq.) TOM HEYMAN - singer/songwriter & multi-instrumentalist- (This Jackpine Social Club artist has toured and recorded with artists of most every stripe, from John Vanderslice and Alejandro Escovedo to his current gigs with celebrated Americana artist Chuck Prophet and the narcotic country band The Court and Spark, to past collaborations with Okkervil River, David Dondero, Paula Frazier and more.)
