Subject: Witnesses Sought In Fatal Hit and Run


San Francisco Police are seeking witnesses in a fatal
hit and run involving a bicyclist that occurred shortly
after 2:00 A.M. Thursday, January 12, 2006. In this
incident, a 26-year-old woman bicyclist was traveling southbound
on Polk Street when a motorist traveling westbound on Geary
Street reportedly ran a red light, causing the bicyclist to
strike the passenger door of the vehicle and catapulting her,
resulting in her striking the front area of the vehicle before
landing on the street. The driver fled the scene.

The victim was taken to SFGH and was pronounced dead
at about 9:45 this morning. The victim's name is not being
released pending next-of-kin notification.

According to witnesses, the suspect vehicle was an
SUV-style black Honda, model CR-V. The driver was described as
a black male. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Police investigators are asking for additional
witnesses or for anyone who may have information regarding this
incident to contact Hit and Run, 415-553-1641, or to call the
Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.

Since there is noticeable damage to the passenger door
of the vehicle resulting from the collision, auto repair shop
personnel are asked to contact police if anyone brings in a
vehicle as described above with passenger door damage.

i didn't know tucker but as part of the bay's queer community, my community has been impacted by this senseless and tragic loss. however, the critiques of the prison industrial complex as a racist, classist and ultimately futile "solution" to society's problems still holds true even as we mourn the loss of one of our own. putting the driver, who is reportedly a black man, behind bars will not make any of us, bikers or not, safer. it will, for certain, add to the number of black men in prison (an already staggering #) and further the PIC's assault on communities of color. that being said, i do hope the driver is found and made accountable to tucker's family and friends, but i hope that in this process, those who mourn her do not make allies with a system designed to enslave and destroy people of color, poor people, disabled people and queers.

You're good at criticizing and pulling in irrelevancies, but do you have anything helpful to say?

Motorists kill all the time, and get away with it nearly always. That's not my idea of justice. Is it yours? If not, what would you do about it? if so, what in Hell is wrong with you?
