About Mail and Books for Daniel McGowan

Hello friends,

First of all, thanks so much for sending in letters
and books to Daniel. He is so excited when he gets
them. I think we've all done a great job with getting
things to him. In fact, maybe too good of a job! In
speaking with Lisa today, he said we have to slow down
on the books. He got 7 books today and fears that if
he gets too many tomorrow some may go into his
"property" that he can't access, meaning he won't even
get a chance to read them until he's out. So, let's
hold off on the book sending for the moment and see
where he's at in a few days. I'll keep you posted.

Yesterday when I spoke with Daniel, he had told me he
had gotten 21 letters the day before! He was so happy!
Letters really make his day more than you can believe.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get some of the
letters sent to him due to mail violations.

So, here's a new and hopefully more thorough list of
what to do and not to do when writing Daniel.
Please read every single one of these, as he just got
7 mail violations in one day!


DON'T USE NICKNAMES.
Don't discuss Daniel's pending case.
Even if you are a lawyer, don't discuss legal
information or offer legal advice.
Don't discuss any illegal activity.
Be Smart - remember ALL mail is read by prison
officials.
Write letters using regular blue or black ball-point
pens (no felt pens, markers, etc.).
Write on both sides of the paper, since the number of
pages he can have is limited. It is also totally
acceptable to type your letters. This way more fits on
a page.
Do NOT put any stickers inside or outside the
card/letter.
Write your address inside your letter/card if you
think he does not have it, but do NOT put an address
*label* anywhere inside or on the letter/card. Address
labels are ONLY OK to go on your envelope.
Do NOT send him stamps, envelopes (self-addressed or
otherwise), blank paper or notecards. He will not be
able to receive them and he will be denied your
letter, in addition.
Do NOT send him any form of currency, whether cash,
check or money order.
Do NOT send photographs larger than 4x6. Do not send
polaroids and make sure the content is appropriate.
Do NOT include any paperclips, staples or any extra
things in your letter.
Do NOT send a card that has glitter or any 3-D objects
in or on it.
Do NOT send cards with paper inserts glued in them.
I'm assuming this is often found on greeting cards.
Do NOT tape your envelope shut. I have no idea why
this is a problem, but apparently it is and he won't
get your letter.

If you're not sure what to write about, tell him about
current events and what's going on in the world, your
neighborhood, or your life.

Daniel wishes he could write back to everyone but he's
only allowed a limited amount of paper, envelopes and
stamps. So even if you don't hear back, please know
how much your letters mean to him.
