Where Have All the Protests Gone? Sacramento!

by Stephen Pearcy (stephen.pearcy [at] sbcglobal.net)
It's hard to believe it, but there's not one single anti-war rally scheduled in the Bay Area for this entire upcoming, 3-day weekend. However, we're having a big one in Sacramento this Saturday. So if you think it's worth a 1.5 hour drive to help stop the war and to get Bush impeached, then come on over!
Hello everyone, and Happy New Year!

For most people, the last several weeks probably involved holiday gatherings with friends and family. Locally, we saw little, if any, direct action.

But over that time, more and more news about the corrupt politics of the Bush administration continued to pour in, and the news about the Iraq war has only gotten worse. Many frustrated people emailed me in December to say that they could hardly wait for the next anti-war rally, and now we have one planned:

On Saturday, January 14th, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, we'll hold a major anti-war/anti-Bush rally at 16th & Broadway, in Sacramento (rain or shine)! Bay Area folks take note: there is not one single anti-war event in the entire Bay Area this weekend, so if you want to stop the war, please come to Sacramento (only a 1.5 hour drive!).

If you're fed up with Bush's arrogance and want to express your views, you won't want to miss it. If the weather cooperates, we expect a huge turnout. Not only have anti-war and civil rights folks gotten more frustrated with the Bush administration's flagrant disregard for human rights and the U.S. Constitution, but there are also significant issues pending before Congress that warrant public expression via direct action. There are many issues about which to speak and to protest.

But we also need to be heard! If we show up in large numbers, that will increase the likelihood that the media will cover our event and that they'll give it more coverage time. Tthere's always more coverage when there are more people. So please help to spread the word.

Also, please bring your compelling anti-war signs and displays. To draw public attention to our dissatisfaction with the status quo, our anti-war expressions must be dynamic!

Therefore, so that we can show strength in numbers, please forward this to others, and bring your friends, banners, signs, art, instruments, etc., to 16th & Broadway on Saturday, January 14th, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

Thank you. We look forward to seeing you!
