Officer Andrew Cohen produces yet another film
Officer Andrew Cohen wrote to me on Monday, Jan. 2, to promote his brand new film, “Inside SFPD: The Bayview,” his attempt at “rebuilding trust in the Bayview community.” After reading my response to his email, he immediately called to discuss how he felt he had been vilified in the media and how his new film would help to build trust between the police and Bayview residents. Everyone is saying we’re playing “the race card.” I’d have to agree, considering that it’s the only card we’ve been given in a game that was never dealt in our favor.
I’ve watched white officers on more than one occasion frisk and physically assault young Black men. Many have had drugs planted on them; some have even been shot and killed. Either way, they have been unjustly removed, emotionally, mentally and physically, from their families – and that is a crime.
