December 20, 2005

Hi everyone in Northern California World Can't Wait!

We're writing you about:
1) State of the Union date is set!
2) WCW OpEd in this week's Bay Guardian!
3) Copies of NYTimes ad available
4) DVDs available

(1) The following is excerpted from a letter from the National Office this morning:

Breaking news: thanks to Chicago chapter, we heard that Robert Novak, a right-wing
commentator, wrote in a Sunday column in the Chicago Sun Times that the State of the
Union will be Tuesday, January 31. This makes our Washington, D.C. mobilization on
Saturday February 4. We checked through a Congressional office who confirmed the date.
We are still going to check a little further, as there is nothing on the White House
website yet.

BUT, for the purposes of organizing, having a concrete date is very good news. We all
should take the dates seriously. There will be a flyer soon which will be up on the
website as a PDF. The National Office is also making a very simple green/black poster
with the words "BUSH STEP DOWN. State of the Union/State of Emergency", with a space to
add local info.

Having an actual date means we can immediately make travel plans. The West Coast can aim
to send hundreds of people to D.C. -- we are looking into charter buses and planes, group
rate air travel, ground transportation fares. We're going to print and sell tickets for
the trip. So, everyone SAVE THE DATES and make PLANS to "Drown Out Bush's Lies" on
Tuesday 1/31, then get to D.C. on Saturday 2/4 to demand BUSH STEP DOWN. This is a little
later than it could have been, but we still have just 6 weeks! Let's get out with the
flyers to holiday shopping crowds and movie lines, to all our lists of activists and
organizations. House parties and canvassing efforts will all be aided by having this
specific date.

***** Other Important Updates:

(2) PICK UP THIS WEEK'S Bay Guardian tomorrow (Wednesday)! It has a great OpEd "Why The
World Can't Wait" by California Assemblyman Mark Leno. We can use this with the NY Times
ad -- show it to everyone for outreach and fundraising. Pick up several copies (it's
free) from newsstands but leave some for other people to read.

(3) Full size reprints of the New York Times Ad from Monday December 12 have been ordered
in bulk by the local WCW office and will be available, call or email: 415-864-5153.

(4) DVDs with a short documentary of November 2nd in SF, plus the O'Reilly show with NY
State Senator Tom Duane opposite O'Reilly and David Horowitz debating about the New York
Times ad, are also available from the SF office (call or email to place your order,
they're being produced now). We also already have two different DVD's available for a
donation of $5-20 (or more) that are great tools for organizing. Also they make good
gifts. Each one is about 15 minutes in length and shows coverage of the Nov 2nd protests

Hi fellow World Can’t Waiters,

Sunday’s meeting was lively and no one left not knowing what they could do to build
this movement. We are still working collectively on more concrete plans for the day of
drowning out the State of the Union. At this point, the main gathering place for San
Francisco will be at 24th and Mission. People really like the idea of toppling a giant
papier mache statue of Bush, but we still need artists to help Laura Campos create it. If
you couldn’t make the meeting but want to canvas in your neighborhood, please let us
know. We are also working on planning transportation for the rally in DC. Please let us
know if you want to go to that. We still don’t know the exact date but we just need to
be creative and as flexible as possible in making plans.

Two upcoming meetings:
1. Dec 28th from 6-9 in SF
2. Dec 28th from 7-? In Berkeley

Due to the growth of the World Can't Wait, Drive Out the Bush Regime movement, a new
organizing committee has been formed in the East Bay. This is good news for those of you
in the Berkeley/Oakland areas.

Starting on Wednesday, December 21st, the committee will be meeting every Wednesday at
7pm at La Val's Pizza located at 2516 Durant Ave in Berkeley. –Contact for East Bay
ONLY: (510) 689-8836 and wcweastbay [at] yahoo.com

The committee will planning and organizing for the main demonstration in the East Bay
against the Bush Regime on the Day of the State of the Union Speech (sometime in January)
and to send volunteers to the national demonstration in Washington DC on the Saturday
after the speech.

On the day of the State of the Union speech, the main demonstration will be at Sproul
Plaza at the University of California, Berkeley. All day, there will be music, speeches,
and activities leading to a mass outburst of sound when Bush starts his speech sometime
in the evening. Bring your determination, your ideas, and your friends to the next
committee meeting this Wednesday. The future is up to us.

San Francisco’s next meeting is at Valencia St Books at 569 Valencia (near the 16th St
BART) from 6:00-9:00 pm on Wednesday Dec 28th. We’ll go back to week-end meetings once
the holidays are over.

SF contact info: 415-864-5153 or 415-410-5455

Note to people to far away to come to either meeting: We’d like to send someone to your
area to help you Bring the Noise in other towns and cities. Let us know if you’d like
us to help set that up. We might not be able to do that until January but we can start
planning now. Zara from SF WCW office

great idea- SF indy is hopping with protest activity-right on guys!

Also Cindy Sheehan will be at the State of the Union in DC so if you can make it to DC on January 31st- that would be most excellent.

And plan on staying afterward because survivors of Katrina will be there protesting on the Feb 9th

[SF] reminder for meeting 12/28 and going to DC 2/4

Hello World Can’t Wait,

We have only five busy weeks before the State of the Union address. This is just a short
message to remind you of tonight’s meetings, of making plans for going to D.C. on Feb
4th and there’s lots to be done before then

Reminder of next general meeting: Wednesday December 28th from 6-9 pm at Valencia St
Books, 569 Valencia St in San Francisco.

Berkeley: meetings every Wednesday, including the 28th at La Val's Pizza located at 2516
Durant Ave in Berkeley. –Contact for East Bay ONLY: (510) 689-8836 and
wcweastbay [at] yahoo.com

Going to DC: Who is going? Are you going? Best deal we found is on Jet Blue. There are
roundtrip tickets for $218 for leaving Oakland Feb 1, 2 or 3rd, and returning Feb 4th or
5th. Oakland is the only airport in the Bay Area for Jet Blue. Anyone who wants to leave
here on the 1st or 2nd will be able to help organize in DC. The WCW people already in DC
need to make arrangements for where everyone will be staying. And we in the Bay Area need
to have an idea how many people are going and from what areas.
Charter buses would be about $600 a person and take 6-7 days to get there. If anyone is
interested in taking a bus, let us know. We will need at least 50 people and a deposit to
order a bus and driver.
Amtrak is a little faster and cheaper. Leaving on the morning of Jan 31st would get you
to DC in time for the rally on Feb 4th and it costs $147 each way.

Stay in touch and spread the good news, that we CAN and MUST drive out this criminal
regime.
