what is this? can't see video on my browser, but this sounds wack! tookie was innocent.

by guilty beyond a reasonable doubt?
There was no certainty of Tookie's guilt. Something that questions the wisdom of even having a death penalty to begin with. Many people on CA and other death rows have later been proven innocent by new info, though after the execution it is too late. Even someone who spends most of their life in prison will be glad upon release if they are later proven innocent..

There was considerable doubt of Tookie's guilt, based on unreliable evidence from a fellow convict who testified against Tookie for a greatly reduced sentence. Tookie was accused of murder, and without anyone else to blame, he satisfied the LA DA in obtaining a conviction for a crime. Unfortunately most of police work in the US is based on hearsay and convictions without credible evidence. Otherwise the police would look bad in the public eye if they couldn't arrest anyone. Arrests don't make crime any more or less likely to occur, only that innocent people are often rounded up in the desperate police sweeps..

Another man on CA death row is scheduled for execution in Jan. We need to join the rest of the world's nations and ban the death penalty from taking any more innocent lives. The truth is we don't know 100 percent guilt so we cannot risk state murder of any more possible innocent people like Tookie..

Personally i would have liked to meet Tookie and ask him about the role of CIA in increasing gang violence in LA and elsewhere by their import of crack-cocaine and weapons (Dark Alliance, Gary Webb). Now i (or anyone else) will never have that chance..

Last Sept 14 2005 i was also saddened that the state of Texas executed Frances Newton. She was accussed by the DA of killing her family, though it is equally possible and more probable that her family was murdered by the drug dealer to whom she owed money. The state of Texas may find the truth out decades later, and no justice was served. Not only was her family taken from her by a drug dealer, she suffered and died at the hands of the state of Texas..

Here is a website of one of many campaigns to have a moratorium on the death penalty..

"From Sister Helen Prejean, Founder

Welcome to The Moratorium Campaign.

Ever since my first book, Dead Man Walking, was published I have been traveling across the country giving talks, helping people to see through the illusions of the death penalty and call for its termination. Every talk I give ends with an invitation for citizens to sign a petition calling for a moratorium on government killings, and people have signed, in the hundreds of thousands.

Now, with the completion of my second book, The Death of Innocents: An Eyewitness Account of Wrongful Executions, The Moratorium Campaign is working with renewed vigor to deepen the discourse around the death penalty and to bring about moratoria across the USA.

The state doesn't have the right to take life. Two wrongs don't make a right, the death penalty just magnifies the murder of innocence..

by such gratitude
Tookie's worst possible crimes pale before those of his accusers, the racist judicial process and the foul intent of the blood soaked executioners. justice for all?
