With Marge Tsitouris Expert in international disaster response
Marge Tsitouris will speak to CARE’s response to the tsunami disaster and its parallels to the relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and the current Pakistan-India earthquake disaster.
A nationally recognized expert in international disaster response, Marge Tsitouris will be in the Bay Area on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 to report on the progress CARE has made for the tsunami victims of southeast Asia in the first nine months of relief and rehabilitation. Just back from the affected countries, she will address both the accomplishments of rebuilding lives and livelihoods and the challenges of building a better future.
Ms. Tsitouris is in a unique position to evaluate CARE’s response and to engage others in dialogue about the parallels with Hurricane Katrina in the United States and the more recent earthquake in Pakistan and India. With over 24 years of overseas experience, Ms.Tsitouris led CARE’s responses to humanitarian crises in Afghanistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Kosovo, Honduras and India. Prior to that, she lived and worked in East and West Africa, Central America, and Asia.
Ms. Tsitouris received her MPH in Health Education at the University of Michigan and a MA in Middle Eastern and Asian History from George Washington University. She is currently serving in an advisory capacity to CARE and other organizations in emergency preparedness and conflict mitigation.
