Saddam’s Defense Team Walkout Attempted Smash and Grab against Iraqi Justice :Corrected:

by al-masakin
By Edward Campbell

SEATTLE, Dec. 5 (Al-Masakin)--Ramsey Clark’s shenanigans in Iraqi court are mischievous pranks intended to justify removing the Saddam from Iraqi jurisdiction. Clark’s legal hatchet team wants to whisk the toppled dictator away to the International Criminal Court.

Infiltration and disruption are the well worn tactics of the Worker’s World Party which has abused not only journalistic credentials, but now the credentials of the ABA. Instead of defending his client, Clark encourages the defendant to disrupt the proceedings. The walkout by Saddam defense lawyers was a premeditated staged event intended to undermine the legitimacy of the Iraqi court.

WWP once said that if Clark were to represent Milosevic we would all learn the dirty little secrets of Milosevic’s association with the CIA. Far from actually achieving this promise, WWP’s newspaper The Worker actually failed to even cover the Milosevic trial or even inform its readers as to why Ramsey Clark quit the defense team or even when he quit it.

Clark’s accusation that the law of the Iraqi court is the product of western imperialism in truth is more aptly applied to the ICC and the ICTY than it is to the Iraqi court which intends to try the Saddam Hussein. Iraq wasn’t invaded to topple the Saddam; it was invaded for its oil. It is the Iraqi people who demand justice in the Saddam case, not the Bush regime. The Bush regime has repeatedly suggested that a land of exile be sought for the Saddam. It is widely believed that the US had in fact actually removed Saddam Hussein from Iraq to an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf only to return to Iraq after an April 2004 report by Al-Masakin which quoted Amy Ross saying: “No one even knows where Saddam is right now.” This report was followed by several major news agencies including the BBC which reported that Saddam Hussein may have been taken aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. A suggestion adamantly denied by the DoD. Moreover, it is only because of secret diplomatic commitments made between the US State Department and Iran that Saddam Hussein is being tried in an Iraqi court. Iran conceded its claims against the Saddam in exchange for the US commitment to try him in a sovereign Iraqi court. He otherwise would have been removed from Iraqi jurisdiction. Ramsey Clark with his little games, then, works against these hard won diplomatic concessions, and covertly aiding the Bush regime’s wildest dream; that Saddam be removed from Iraq and his dirty little secrets remain unexposed.
