The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
Matt Gonzalez in Person
Tuesday, November 29, 7:00
To many, Matt Gonzalez is the very face of Bay Area progressive
politics. A lawyer by trade, he was the first member of the Green Party
to win office in San Francisco to the city’s Board of Supervisors, and
was later elected President of the Board by his peers. Following a
close 2003 mayoral run-off, he has recently returned to his legal
roots, partnering in the firm Gonzalez and Leigh, L.L.P. His pick, The
Revolution Will Not Be Televised, is a riveting documentary that
captures in real time the chaotic 2002 Venezuelan coup, supported by
the US government, that failed to oust the country’s populist
president, Hugo Chávez. Directors: Kim Bartley, Donnacha O’Briain.
(Ireland/US 2003) 74 min.
