Nearly a thousand people gathered at the gates of San Quentin prison this morning in order to stop the scheduled December 13 execution of Stan “Tookie” Williams. Speakers included rapper Snoop Dog, Fred Hampton Jr., representatives of the Nation of Islam, religious forces, and grassroots anti-death penalty activists from across the California. A few speakers noted that our government is waging an immoral war abroad in Iraq, and is now planning to kill a leading “peace maker” at home. Many individuals in Not in Our Name believe that state sponsored killing is only one of many injustices being carried out in our name today. Not in our name.

First and foremost, I have to say that Stan is such an inspiration to me, and I support each and everything that he does. To end his life will not only be MURDER, but it will also tell those who look up to him as a way of "getting out" of the violent lifestyle, that they simply don't matter. For so many people (kids included), Stan is the only person that TRULY understands how they feel, and what they are going through. To end Stan's life would be immoral, wrong, and hateful. Last time I checked, an eye for and eye just doesn't cut it. He has done more while LOCKED UP than most people do that are free. FREE STANLEY WILLIAMS!!!!
I attented in the Save Tookie Rally last Saturday at San Quentin prison. I am a death penalty opponnet. I feel it would serve no one's best interest to kill Stan Tookie Williams. He has been nominated for six nobel peace prize awards, for the Children's Books he wrote. He has a peace protocol for gang members in one of his books so they can call Truces. He also has become a redeemed indiviual which should be granted Clemency.live.I was writing to say that the lawmakers of this country are quick to declare war against drugs and violence, yet support the war in Iraq. I work with over (100) Mothers who's children were murdered here in the city of Richmond, Ca. All of there murders were senseless. The execution of Tookie would also be another Senseless Murder.

This murdering fascist pig government is determined to proceed with the killing of Tookie Williams precisely because doing so will toss more poison into the waters of black/white relations

They want us to hate each other

Divide and conquer, baby, divide and conquer. It's the way keep us all down

What we have to do is UNITE and RISE UP like the 800,000-lb gorilla we have always been! Snap those rotten ghoul bones like little sticks!

I read about this tragic scenario and feel that the State of California, by executing this man, would set a heinous example to our children, thereby, severely impacting the future of all.

Who are we to judge when and how one should die. I am sickened and pray daily that he be spared.

by Casual Observer
He viciously killed four people, taking away their lives and ruining the lives of their families forever, and joked about it afterward. Writing a few kids' books doesn't exactly make up for that.

And the Nobel prize nomination, what a joke. Anyone can be nominated for that. You could nominate Mickey Mouse. He was nominated by death penalty opponents for the sake of publicity.

Have any of you speaking out for Tookie spent even 60 seconds thinking about the people he killed? That includes a father of two young girls and three "people of color".

He is sentenced to death for murder, for shooting people in the back with a shotgun, not sentenced because he is black. And by the way, there were minorities on the jury.
by What about BushCO?
and their 'vicious killings'???
Oh, that's right, they're not black and poor.
by Casual Observer
I'm ok with investigating Bush for crimes, but I see that as a separate issue. As far as I know he didn't shoot a youg father or a family of three with a shotgun.

I feel that Tookie really has changed, and as far as being found guilty of murder, I have a lot of doubts about the case, and for the way he has touched our youth I feel that his life should be spared. Peace to Tookie. We Love You
by No, Bush is responsible for many more
Tookie couldn't touch Bush on the amount of murders...
by bravo 49r
I sincerely hope that those who claim this thug gorilla monster is such an inspiration can convince his victims of that. The handwringers who would free this scumbag should be right beside him when he gets the needle, and I hope it hurts going in.
by the murderers in the Bush admin. walk free
That's the real problem, numbskull.

LET HIM FREE HE CHANGED STOP KLILLING OUR BLACK PEOPLE. HE AN AUTHOR HE CHANGED SOME KID LIFE PLEASE STOP RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Diana Elizondo
What Tookie did was obviously wrong. He killed.

But what gives them the right to kill him. Who are they to judge and contribute to his death? This makes their killing of Tookie just as bad as what he did. Now our government leaders are murderers. Violence begets violence, why contribute?

I am disappointed with our system of the death penalty. We are all sinners. Sinners do not have the right to judge other sinners.

Clinton's policies killd more Iraqis than Bush ever dreamed of. Even if Tookie is guilty, the blood he spilled is a drop in the bucket next to that spilled by forces under control of the POTUSes.

Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it.
