Fake Bake Sale at Oakland Recruiting Station for "Not Your Soldier" Day

by Jeff Paterson, Not in Our Name (jeff [at] paterson.net)
Not in Our Name joined CODEPINK this afternoon at the Oakland Militiary Recruiting Station for a fake bake sale and street theater to protest the war, military recruiting, and to support Army National Guard SPC Katherine Jashinski who is currently speaking out against the war.
1-help.jpg
At a press conference yesterday at the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia, Army National Guard SPC Katherine Jashinski read a statement that stated, in part:

For eighteen months, while my CO status was pending, I have honored my commitment to the Army and done everything that they asked of me. However, I was ordered to Ft. Benning last Sunday to complete weapons training in preparation to deploy for war.

Now I have come to the point where I am forced to choose between my legal obligation to the Army and my deepest moral values. I want to make it clear that I will not compromise my beliefs for any reason. I have a moral obligation not only to myself but to the world as a whole, and this is more important than any contract.

This one handles trauma cases around Tikrit and asked to go.
Out of the thousands that go, you show no interest. The few that don't honor commitments, you celebrate.
Go figure.

You think it's honorable to help Nazi Germany II conquer the planet, even though this naturally means arbitrarily attacking countries and killing hundreds of thousands of people who've never done anything to us (600,000 dead in Iraq over the past 15 years). The incredible scale of this crime escapes your comprehension totally, and herein lies your total complicity. If they decide NOW that they need to BECOME a threat, I'd be hard-pressed to blame them. How would you feel if, say, Russia came over and did to us over the past 15 years exactly what YOU have done to the Iraqis. Would you want to kill Russians? Why yes, you would, and unlike what you have now, you'd have JUST CAUSE! No American would tell you different -- well, aside from assholes like the Bush junta, who would jump over to the Russian side to get their power fix. Oh yes they would.

Some Americans, on the other hand, do NOT think helping Nazi Germany II is an honorable cause, because they do not share your sociopathic ability to discard all moral sanity

GO FIGURE

You're a bigot and a complete fucking asshole, Joel, a true "Good German." I hope to fuck you're over there because I don't even want to be in the same hemisphere with the likes of a soulless moral zombie like you. It makes me feel unclean. Now go out and kill dem babies

But to each their own. You do get your wish. Here's a work pic for your viewing pleasure. The really cool thing, when I'm done I'll be just another citizen in your fair city. Maybe we can get together.

He's not regular US military. Joel is a spook

so what exactly is your "work", Joel? helping trauma victims? or creating them?
by Joel is a bitch w/ out his gun
I think Joel has an extremely small penis, so he tries to make up for it by showing off with his gun. And sending Indybay pictures. We're not impressed, Joel. In fact, we laugh at you, heartily. You are a typical coward. Probably spent your whole life trying to make up for where you lack with some pseudo-macho crap. Get some therapy instead. Please don't front by saying it's about the money.

I don't support the war, but I support the men and women out there doing the toughest work in the world.

I'll buy you a drink when you get home.

The first pic is of my little girl, doing her part as a medic. After the individuaI posted the cute response, just wanted you to know, that yes, I really do work here. As for penis size, you may call me neuter man. Never worried about it, but thanks for taking the time to worrry for me.
The point I try and make is to give you the local slant, tell you what we here see. If you wish to discount it, that's on you.

BTW, I'm in protection.

Do you think the vest makes me look fat?
by Soulger
No, but the SAW does! Just kidding. I am an Iraq vet who doesn't support the war at all--or name calling. I'd rather have a discussion about why we disagree (and of course convince you that this war is wrong)!

by Joel
At this point, somebody better find a way for us to leave that does not encourage them to mess with us in other paces later on. I really had hopes the shia could run the place by themselves.
by yeah
"I really had hopes the shia could run the place by themselves."

Of course they cant because the country barely has a Shia majority and even if it werent for the Sunnis and current insurgency, differences between Shias and Kurds over what a government really should look like would cause the country to split in two. There are also differences among Shias that are pretty significant (secular Shias, vs SCIRI and DAWA vs Sadr supporters).
by its all that time you spent in jarhead school
Your being there is EXACTLY what is making them want to mess with us in other places, them and a lot of other people besides. The way thoughtful Americans felt about Hitler back in the '30s, that's how such people everywhere else are looking at America now. If another 9-11 happens, there's gonna be a lot less sincerity to the sympathy and a lot more unexpressed feeling of "fuck 'em, serves 'em right." This is how empires self-destruct. I don't care how many guns you have to peoples' heads, universal hatred is a more powerful force

If you really don't want them to want to kill us, take your jackboot of their throats
by yeah
"Your being there is EXACTLY"

I think Joel is in Afghanistan not Iraq. Afghanistan has its own set of problems that isn't 100% due to the US. The current state of things can't really be called a single unified country and the centers of power seem to be the exact same warlords who controlled things after the Soviets but before the Taliban. They weren't the worst warlords in the world and most are probably better than most Taliban but really even the warlords in Afghanistan mainly rule by intimidating local strongmen who havent changed and a lot of the fighting is about control of the world's opium (since just about all the world's heroin now comes from Afghanistan and its by far the largest source of income either directly or indirectly for people in the country). Joel has mentioned attacks by the Taliban a few times but am curious if he thinks that such attacks really are that different from all the other atacks between warlords (I mean Hekmatyar was pretty bad back in the day). Dostum seems every bit as nasty as any Taliban leader and holds a lot of power right now and there is Ismail Khan. Curious to know Joels thoughts on those two guys. How much power do they really have in the areas they control are other more secretive druglords now really in control of more power etc....

[W]ere Americans or Karzai & Co. “spreading democracy” since 2001? After 9/11 when the U.S. resorted to bomb our wounded country and take the lives of several thousands innocent civilians it helped the bloodthirsty NA seize power. The NA is comprised of those millionaire rapists busy in the opium trade under the very nose of the US troops. They are the people behind the insecurity, kidnappings, embezzlement of billions of dollars of foreign aids, injustices, anti-women constraints, covering up of the day light murders, and so on and so forth.

They include the likes of Dr Abdullah, Younis Qanooni, Zia Massud, Karim Khalili, Burhanuddin Rabbani, Mohaqiq, Sarwar Danish, Ms. Mosouda Jalal, Nematullah Shahrani, Ismail Khan, Ms. Sediqa Balkhi, Rasul Sayyaf, Ikram Masoomi, Rashid Dostum, Mullah Fazil Hadi Shinwari, Ms. Amena Afzali and others are stained with the blood of tens of thousands of Kabul residents. All of these ladies and gentlemen have the disgraceful scar of inhuman brutalities against our people in the blackest years of 1992-1996. They are “our” ministers, vice presidents and advisors to the president. Most of the Afghan ambassadors, governors, secretaries and other high ranking officials are also affiliated with NA mafia.

I really liked the bake sale and the cute Asian girl. I see your point as I am a disabled veteran who saw the pleasures of being a veteran through other veterans eyes, all of us kicked, sometimes worse than the illegal immigrants.

Best of luck in the stop the war effort. I have included a picture of my alter ego--Saint Ram Bone, he is a victim of medical experiments with balls and does not give a rat's ass.
by Joel
Our being here is why they want to kill us? Before we came to Afghanistan or Iraq, they wanted to kill us. That much has been proven. We ignored Afghanistan and let them do their own thing the minute the Russians left. Iraq? Different story. It's great that Hussein got his lifetime achievement award, but it could have been done differently.

You want to compare now to the 30's? Ok, a vocal group feel we should stick to what's happening in America and ignore everything else in the world. Look what happened.

Are you saying that arabs are hopeless and can never have a democratic lifestyle. Are you saying that muslims are not worth our time? You see what happens when the tribalism and religious warfare starts. Do you believe that our leaving today will stop it or accelerate it? Should we stop all support, all reconstruction attempts? Should we cut them off from all aid and say"fuck you guys, I'm going home"?

Apart from all the rhetoric about the President being a lying bastard, what else do you have to add? I'm scared for friends and family working there. I'm saddened by friends that have died or been wounded. I have a lot of anger in my heart for Zarqawi and his ilk, for the politicians playing games to get elected, measuring their dicks while this goes on, for people that shit on the soldiers serving and the vets returning.

"Our being here is why they want to kill us? Before we came to Afghanistan or Iraq, they wanted to kill us."

Before the US went to Iraq there were people who hated the US but less than now. Even in Afghanistan there are probably many more people now who hate the US than before the invasion mainly because Al Qaeda didnt represent much of the population and the US had little to do with Afghanistan at the time (since the US forgot about it after funding the fundamentalists in the 80s)

For Joel, concern for the Afghans is paramount. He can't give sustantive answers to questions posed to him because he's swooning with love for the Afghans--and by extension, all of humanity.

I thought I was answering your questions. Can't tell you the thought processes of the powers that be, but can tell you about what occurs here.
I would not say I have a deep and abiding love for the locals, but wanting to see them all die is not true either. Or were you showing your mastery of sarcasm?
The work we are involved in is Police training, poppy eradication, demining, and police monitoring. All of the above are tied together and all are dangerous as our work interferes with their cash flow. That the police are involved in poppy growing, corruption, and maybe are in the Taliban too is not news to us. trying to correct that.
Iraq, is worse. Much worse.
by you have a lot to learn Joel
Hey Joel

Wow, you really don't know history from that hairy hole in your ass, do you bwah?

Iraq never did shit to us, the aggression is completely one-sided. Even the Bush Reich has categorically retracted their bullshit about Iraq ever having anything whatsoever to do with 9-11. The WMDs we hooked them up with two decades ago, they don' have none dat shit no mo'. The Niger yellow-cake lie is rolling the heads off these assholes as we speak. Yeah, I know the Ba'athists were human-rights violators, BUT YOUR KIND IS EVEN WORSE! Over the past 15 years, you've killed twice as many Iraqis as even the most propagandized claims for Saddam, half of them infants and small children.

Every single excuse for this war is a goddamn LIE!!

Do you actually believe you're over there to "bring them democracy," Joel? Is that what the liars are telling you? As opposed to conquering the Persian Gulf Oil Ocean for US billionaires so they'll have total control of this lifeline of every industrial economy on the planet? Like I said, bwah, you got a lot to learn

Before you worry about democracy in Iraq, you need to come back and fight for it here

Here, read all this shit and get back to me
http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Democracy_America/Democracy_America.html

The billionaires your bosses work for aren't going to allow a REAL democracy in Iraq, you poor chump!! A government like that would nationalize the oil again, redistribute wealth, work against israel, etc. etc. That shit aint gonna happen! They're gonna put in a fascist government that PRETENDS to be a democracy, just like the one we got, only much more vicious. Shit, Saddam was OUR BOY from when we toppled the previous guy, Qassem!!!! All the worst stuff he did (the gassings of Kurds were a sideshow) was just him following CIA orders.

Speaking of those gassings, we have a hell of a nerve bawling about them all the time. We've betrayed the Kurds ruthlessly five times in as many decades. If they knew what pawns they've been they wouldn't have anything to do with us

http://www.isreview.org/issues/28/kurds.shtml

Henry Kissinger's big thought on this stuff was "covert operations should not be confused with missionary work." This was after he personally hung several thousand Kurdish rebels out to dry in 1975, letting Saddam's Army annihilate them

What, you think Afghanistan started fucking with us FIRST?!! See this is the trouble with getting your history from Reader's Digest, Boy's Life magazine, and Tom Brokaw, Joel. You been fed a pile a shit

We started fucking w/ Afghanistan way back in '79, when we bought us some nice greedy generals (our all-time faves) in the Afghan military and had them topple a government that was progressive, secular, democratic -- oh, but aligned with the Soviets. No good-ski. Watching an aligned government on their own border fall into the hands of their deadliest enemy, the Soviets did exactly what we'd do under the circumstances, which is invade, which is to say 'took the bait.' Then the CIA started pouring hundreds of millions into a massive army of insurgents -- REAL insurgents, i.e. from elsewhere -- whose particular form of anti-West fanaticism they deliberately inflamed with megabuck psyops throughout the Middle East. Bin Laden was our boy -- shit he may STILL BE our boy for all you know -- and the Taliban is the creme de la creme of the fanatics we manufactured during that period.

I love the lead-in quote on the following piece. All by itself in three terse sentences, It takes that pop-gun you're so proud of and unloads all umpteen magazines straight up yore ass

http://tinyurl.com/9mt27

There's even a bullshit propaganda movie in production right now, made from a bullshit propaganda book ("Charlie Wilson's War") that lets a tiny bit of this cat out of the bag

That's why their attacks on us have been called 'blowback,' Joel. Has the fuckin penny dropped yet?

And you don't really know who pulled 9-11. That's just more Reader's Digest / Boy's Life / Tom Brokaw bullshit you've swallowed. George Orwell wasn't really writing about commies per se, he just thought he was

re "isolationism," "appeasement," and Nazi imperialism: Oh Hitler was OUR BOY, too, Joel!!! That is until we realized he was nursing a deadly grudge against France and Britain over WWI. 'Til then, we were hoping he'd only march eastward and slice the head off every communist in Russia for us, and the British were COURTING HIM AS AN ALLY to this end! That's what Chamberlain was really doing. All this Reader's Digest "appeasement" stuff is just more Orwellian-bullshit-as-history

http://www.zmag.org/ZMag/articles/barparent.htm

See, they want you to believe NOW, after the fact, that Hitler was the Big Bad Wolfie and that our side is, like, toootal-lay diffrint, dude, like, toootal-lay

Bull fuckin shit

Americans live under a fascist government, have been ever since that corrupt prick Truman got in and opened the door to McCarthyism

http://www.spiritone.com/~gdy52150/nazihydra.html

This is not to say it's a dictatorship. Fascism can be very democratic, assuming the electorate consists mostly of latent fascists...

Okay, so here's my plan for REALLY fixing Iraq:

1) phase out the US occupation and phase in a UN peacekeeping mission. No, the UN doesn't have a great record for this stuff, but it's a lesser evil in terms of keeping Iraqis hopping mad

2) give them a TRUE reform government, not just a bunch of corrupt puppets

3) take our paws off their natural resources. The spoiled asshole billionaires are just going to have to accept that the oil is just not theirs to inherit. Tuff shit, widdle Davy Wockefeller, you only get to have ten billion bucks, poo bay-baaay

Of course, none of this is going to happen. Instead, you're going to stay right where you are and do your job, which is make sure widdle Davy Wockefeller gets evwyt'ing he wants

Note to Joel: that's NINETEEN NINETY EIGHT. Nahn erleven aint done haipend yit

excerpts:
"a [pipeline] route through Afghanistan [from the Caspian Basin] appears to be the best option with the fewest technical obstacles. It is the shortest route to the sea and has relatively favorable terrain for a pipeline. The route through Afghanistan is the one that would bring Central Asian oil closest to Asian markets and thus would be the cheapest in terms of transporting the oil.

"[Afghanistan] has been involved in bitter warfare for almost two decades. The territory across which the pipeline would extend is controlled by the Taliban, an Islamic movement that is not recognized as a government by most other nations. From the outset, we have made it clear that construction of our proposed pipeline cannot begin until a recognized government is in place that has the confidence of governments, lenders and our company.

And now here's the kicker:

Pipeline Politics Taint US War
By Salim Muwakkil
Chicago Tribune
March 18, 2002

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/natres/oil/2002/0318pipeline.htm

“If one looks at the map of the big American bases created for the war, one is struck by the fact that they are completely identical to the route of the projected oil pipeline to the Indian Ocean.”

The quote is originally from this Uri Avnery piece:
http://www.counterpunch.org/avneryoil.html

So there it is for you, Joel, plain as a motherfucker. Political observers were saying years ago that the 21st would be the century of the resource wars, and they were dead right. Afghanistan is just another of widdle Davy Wockefeller's new toys

And don't hold your breath about those poppies. That's CIA property, man! The real game is to whack all the independent producers so they can have their monopoly, just like with all the coke in South America
by Joel
The US bases in Afghanistan are along the pipeline route to the Indian Ocean? The PRT in Tera Kot will be Dutch, the PRT in Kandahar Canadian, The PRT in Herat Spanish, Bamian-Kiwi,The base at Kandahar airfield goes NATO in 2 months with no Americans at all South of Bagram.
We are pulling out of here. I'm here till May. Have been offered the chance to stay until 2011, but fuck that!
2 good books on here, Ghost Wars and The Kite Runner.
Have to go, but will be back later to deal with the other statements.
by THINK
These are all member states of the Great White Empire. If divvying up the bases between them is supposed to trick me into believing it's all totally above board, it's a really lame attempt. So it's a "one world" thing, huh? Oh good, let's give China a piece of the action then. How 'bout Russia and India? They have more rights here anyway. Oo, I know: Brazil!

Aw rats! We can't let them in cuz they aren't unquestionably in league with the global conspiracy of pasty-faced white boy multibillionaires. Too bad
by Joel
Are here, as is India. The Chinese and Indians supply most of the engineers that build the roads and do construction work. The Kirghiz, Uzbeks and Tajiks are here too as merchants and laborers.
The UN is everywhere, but fairly useless. case in point, Nigerian cop inspecting ethics.
One question for you, if we are all equal, why is a white empire evil, but a brown or black empire good? Would that make you a racist?
by including the one I'm part of
black, brown, blue, whatever. But you see this does single out the US/European-based empire for criticism because it is **THE_ONE** -- THE global hegemon. Nobody else comes anywhere close. I don't see the Chinese trying to conquer Ecuador for example. Or Africans invading Thailand

Is it racist to be critical of your own? Or just honest?

Oh and you were talking PRTs with those European parties. Now you're playing like contractors, merchants and laborers all have strategic value equivalent to the armed element of a PRT. I don't think so. For that matter, it was bases that I brought up before and then you switched this to meaning PRTs. Those aren't the same thing either

I think you're being very disingenuous
by Joel
Provincial Reconstruction Team, one for every province. Canandians have military unit for security, Mounties to check on the cops, engineers and admin people. The idea is to keep track of the money and make sure it acually goes where it's spposed to, instead of some greedy pigs pocket. Does not always work the way it should
