Organize Against Oakland Police Murder of Patrick Gaston!
The Uhuru Solidarity Movement study and meeting will include a discussion about how to organize a response from the white community against the Oakland Police Department's killing of Patrick Gaston on last Thursday.
ARE YOU OUTRAGED? THEN TAKE A STAND!
The Uhuru Solidarity Movement is holding a study tomorrow on "Pay Us Our Stolen Black Labor" from Omali Yeshitela Speaks! We will also discuss an action to protest Thursday's murder of 34 year old Patrick Gaston, who died while in custody of Oakland police officers.
Gaston's mother witnessed two officers on top of her son and two hitting him in the moments before he died. The International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement joined the family Saturday in a press conference outside of police headquarters to protest the murder.

Mr. Gaston apparently choked on small plastic packages containing heroin that he swallowed in an attempt to keep police from finding them. Don't you think he is responsible for his own decision to be a drug dealer (which hasn't been denied) and his own decision to swollow drugs to elude capture? The police did not put him in this position, he did. Everytime some is injured or killed while committing a felony there are people who want to blame the police instead of the individual. He made his own destiny. If he would have been working instead if selling drugs he would be alive.
START TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND CHOICES.
START TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND CHOICES.
you have to look more at WHY he made the choices he made than just the choices themselves. assuming that it is accurate that he was a drug dealer: what CAUSED him to be a drug dealer? poverty...maybe he didn't have much of a choice..the sad thing about our society is that, in poor communities, sometimes being a drug dealer is the best job opportunity out there..you can't just say "why didn't he have a job instead of dealing drugs?" maybe he DID have another job and it wasn't enough to support him, there are numerous reasons why he was put into the situation he was in. besides, even if it was all his fault that he was a drug dealer, it doesn't give the police the right to beat him, whether that killed him or not.
even if he swallowed the package, the police are responsible for the well being of people in their custody. if the person they are arresting is choking to death, their responsibility is to get the person help, not to beat and choke them and put handcuffs on.
realistically, if you were choking to death and the police were arresting you, what could you do? what would you do? you cant say anything. youre probably starting to freak out and now cops are beating you and trying to lock up your hands. meanwhile, the only thing you can think about (of course) is getting the thing out of your throat and you need your hands for that. the police were totally in control of the situation, whether he choked on the plastic or not, it was their negligence that resulted in his death.

You uhuru people remind me of the zombies from the old Hanna Barbera cartoons. Pie-peddling paranoid propagandists! If you had given Mr. Gaston a job, he wouldn't be dead! Using black pain to promote white capitalism -- what an innovative technique!
