CALLING ALL MEDIA ACTIVISTS!

Independent World Television (http://www.IWTnews.com) will be the world's first global, non-profit news network, that will offer news and real debate without funding from corporations and government.

Meeting to build the movement in San Francisco:

Monday, November 14th - 6pm
Coffee to the People
1206 Masonic Ave (@ Haight)

We will be showing a 15 minute video about the plans to launch the network, followed by a discussion on how to build a movement in San Francisco. IWT will rely on the economic power of hundreds of thousands of people rather than corporate (advertising) or government funding, to build a network devoted to news and ideas mainstream media are not covering.

Please vist our website: http://www.IWTnews.com for more info.

Hope to See you there!

Erik Paulsson
IWT Movement Building co-ordinator

I always think it's funny when nonprofits piggyback on grassroots projects to get their work done.

There's no props to the global Indymedia network in the post above!
by not impressed
Why think that you can naively post to a site in a network that truly was the "1st ever" non-corporate, global news network and that it will be taken seriously? Why always some slick new re-invention of the wheel? And, why not support and take part in the existing structures? Why not support indymedia.org ... or Papertiger TV? Oh well, just another bugey liberal with no new ideas and lots of NGO funding trying to pretend to be innovative. Lame ....

seems ill conceived. i dont see how this will thrive...
but i dont think it should be written off so easily. in fact,
indymedistas might want to try to coopt this for our
purposes!!

however:

1) 500,000 x 5 is nothing for a global media organization.

2) the inspiration seems to be mostly focused on journalists who want to be indy, but are frustrated by mainstream outlets.

3) it is clearly going to be a problem if you rely on unpaid volunteers to produce "polished" network media, and this will alienate professional journalists who need to be paid

4) the whole volunteer model is kinda problematic to begin with. i mean, the people who most need to be heard dont have time to produce your media for free.

5) there is no such thing as neutral and independent, why not just make a political statement and seek funding wherever you can?.

Why hate on IWT right out of the gate? Jeez. There is a need for all kinds of independent media.

Nothing personal to the indybay.org, but not everyone is comfortable within this venue. People are different. Why can't there be LOTS of venues?

Do I have to pledge allegience to the indybay.org way? Can't I participate in a bunch of different models if I so choose?

Lighten up people. Let your brothers and sisters stretch their wings as they see fit. People are going to enter independent media from a bunch of different doorways. Welcome them. Then educate them. With a little love and compassion if possible.

Peace. Out.

It's interesting how the conversation turns to cooperation between independent media producers, and suddenly disrupters show up.

Could it be that there are people out there who want to sabotage independent media cooperation?

Now who would want to do that?
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
