Yee Helps Labor Fight Prop. 75
Assemblyman Yee Leads Bay Area Effort, Providing Needed Resources to Combat Arnold's Unfair Target on Working Families
SAN MATEO/SAN FRANCISCO – Assemblymember Leland Yee has stepped up to the plate when labor needed him most this special election. In addition to his countless hours of vocal leadership against Propositions 73 through 77, Yee has donated $57,000 to the effort to defeat Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's unfair target on working families.
"To me it is unconscionable to leave our friends in labor out to dry and allow right wing extremists and large corporations to cripple public employees' right to a level playing field," said Yee. "I am proud to stand with labor against Proposition 75 and will do everything I can to fight Arnold's elaborate scheme to take away public employee pension and health benefits."
"Proposition 75 is unnecessary as the Supreme Court has already ruled that no public employee can be forced to join a union, and all public employees already have the right to opt out of having their fees used for politics," said Yee. "But more importantly, Prop. 75 is unfair because it restricts workers but not corporations. This is done by design to strengthen the political power of large corporations, and inevitably fight minimum wage, overtime benefits, adequate health care, and silence working people."
Showing that he will stand with labor no matter the time or the place, today Yee took on former Los Angeles mayor and Republican Gubernatorial candidate Richard Riordan in a debate on Proposition 75 in front of the Federalist Society, a powerful conservative organization. Yee has also led efforts against Proposition 73 through 77 throughout the Bay Area, including San Francisco, San Mateo, San Jose, and Oakland.
"I will go anywhere and do whatever it takes to defeat this attack on working people," said Yee.
