WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Justice Through Music, http://www.jtmp.org , has just launched a new campaign called 'Harmony Now!' to promote the new crop of protest songs being created by both signed and unsigned artists. JTM, which for three years has used famous bands to inspire youth to support civil rights and vote, will host the songs on its website and will release several compilations of the "best of" these songs on CD prior to the 2006 elections.

"Artists started sending us great songs as a result of the protests at Camp Casey in Texas a few months ago because they wanted to spread their message to a bigger audience," said Jeff Cohen, executive director of JTM. "We understand that the protest songs of the 60's had a profound effect on progressive movements throughout the world and we believe that this crop of new material will help to motivate positive change everywhere," Cohen added. "Indeed, people from the former East Bloc have asserted that music rather than nuclear weapons brought down Communism and now, just maybe, music can again have a similar power and effect," he mused.

JTM is accepting protest songs from every genre, and CD compilations will be genre specific. Songs must of CD quality and must fit into the broad category of protest. JTM will not censor material but reserves the right to reject any material that does not meet these standards. Artists whose songs are chosen for the CD will be featured on the site and all proceeds from the CD sales will be used to further the mission of JTM. Songs so far submitted have protested the war, politicians, empire building, environmental destruction and the death penalty. More information is available at http://www.jtmp.org .
