As to a lawsuit against FEMA for criminal negligence that Farrakhan has proposed, first, the accusation should be genocide. Criminal negligence is when someone leaves the key in the car ignition, allowing someone else, such as a child, to steal the car and crash it, perhaps killing someone. Genocide is deliberate mass murder of a specific ethnic group. This is what was clearly attempted in New Orleans, and they are still engaging in ethnic cleansing (a form of genocide) by refusing to house the homeless African-Americans in the available public housing in New Orleans.

Second, a lawsuit will go nowhere and does not feed, clothe, house or employ anyone. This is the talk of an upper middle class con artist, which is what Louis Farrakhan, and all religious hustlers are by definition, whether they are imams, priests, rabbis or preachers.

Maybe what some people are talking about (call it whining if u must) is the effects of religious fundamentalism on sexual identity and health. If someone grows up in an African-american neighborhood and is exposed to homophobia because of religious fundamentalist bigots like the NOI being the leading organizers in their community, then what is the outcome on a person's mental health if they are gay/lesbian/bi/trans/etc..?

The Ogoni people are not identity politics either. The Ogoni were living and fishing in the delta regions of the Niger River long before Mohammad was born. Many indigenous cultures value homosexuals as gifted people who have both male and female qualities in their personality. The fear and phobia directed towrds queer people is a result of being indoctrinated into either Christianity or Islam. What remains is that the indigenous peoples of Africa (and elsewhere) are losing their land and cultural tradition in the onslaught of monoculture religions like Islam and Christianity and the resource consumption and pollution of petroleum corporations like ChevronTexaco. The recent election in Iraq now favors Sharia, the Islamic law that dehumanizes women and homosexuals. They are also homophobic, mysogynistic and patriarchal. These same values are found in extremist sects of Wahhibist and Shi-ite Islam. Both are a reaction to US military presence in the Middle East. So why do these supposed enemies have such common values??

Really most Christians, Jews and Muslims are not homophobic by nature. Off topic from the NOI debates, class does matter, though when someone focuses on one issue at the expense of another (NOI spotlights racism yet excludes queers of color from participating) it already begins the process of polarization through marginalization.
