The New Orleans tragedy showed up the true victimization of Black Folks, I will not try to color this with my own feelings but from reporting, and articles covering this tragic event………….


"It's a poor city. And those who were trapped and not able to evacuate were among the poorest. While some of the looters went after guns and electronic equipment, a good number were taking food, water, ice and diapers.


The longer they were stranded without food, water and electricity in the 90 degree-plus heat, the more desperate their faces. The description of the Superdome, where thousands were being sheltered, sounded like levels of hell, with dead bodies and floors slick from feces and urine. The water still running through the streets was contaminated from the rotting corpses that public health officials couldn't collect."

MOST of the stories of murder and gang violence at New Orleans' Superdome and Convention Centre following Hurricane Katrina were false or greatly exaggerated, according to newspapers which conducted investigations into the reports.

This is really obscene, and heads should roll for it. I have a hard time accepting it really happened. 517 Americans are unaccounted for because the people entrusted with their lives, the Orleans sheriff's department, didn't do their job. They just left them there while Hurricane Katrina slammed into the city.
NEW YORK - September 23 - As Hurricane Katrina began pounding New Orleans, the sheriff's department abandoned hundreds of inmates imprisoned in the city’s jail, Human Rights Watch said today.

Firms with White House ties get Katrina contracts
FEMA taps Halliburton subsidiary, Shaw Group, Bechtel for cleanup
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Companies with ties to the Bush White House and the former head of FEMA are clinching some of the administration's first disaster relief and reconstruction contracts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
At least two major corporate clients of lobbyist Joe Allbaugh, President Bush's former campaign manager and a former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, have already been tapped to start recovery work along the battered Gulf Coast.
One is Shaw Group Inc. and the other is Halliburton Co. subsidiary Kellogg Brown and Root. Vice President Dick Cheney is a former head of Halliburton.
Bechtel National Inc., a unit of San Francisco-based Bechtel Corp., has also been selected by FEMA to provide short-term housing for people displaced by the hurricane. Bush named Bechtel's CEO to his Export Council and put the former CEO of Bechtel Energy in charge of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
