October 22nd Coalition Meeting- to plan for Bay Area protest in San Jose on October 22nd,
10th National Day of Protest
Sept 18th Sunday
5pm sharp
San Jose Peace Center
48 South 7th Street
San Jose, CA (408)295-4424

We are finalizing plans for October 22nd National Day of Protest for San Jose.
This meeting will finalize speakers, culture, outreach and press work. The trial of Walker is coming up soon, and we need to mobilize the whole bay area to this trial. The Cardenas family will update their case, and other family members their cases.

Check out the national call/leaflet for October 22nd----it highlights "In the last 2 years since Cau Bich Tran( a young Vietnamese mother of two) was killed while holding a vegetable peeler, there have been about a dozen police involved killings in the San Jose area alone. Rudy Cardenas was one of those stolen lives and the state drug agent Walker who shot him in the back is going to trial for manslaughter in September." The Call for a National Day of Protest:

The Cardenas family, Ayala family, Frank Rosenberg, Mesha, Elvira Pollard all spoke at the Chicano Moratorium. And all the families have been actively speaking out at many events in the Bay Area.

A lot has happened since the last October 22nd Coalition meeting---and it
shows just how important October 22nd's work is. Steven Fountain, a local web developer, was tasered and then fatally shot five times last week in Campbell, CA. And on 9/10-05 a 17year old black youth,SFPD shooting of Tyrell Taylor was shot by SFPD on Harbor Road.

We brought the Stolen Lives Walls to the Power to the Peaceful concert
this past Saturday, and thousands of people got an eyeful. Their eyes
were riveted on the lists of people who've died at the hands of law
enforcement-- and these names were nearly all from the 1990's! Unfortunately we could fill many more panels with the stolen lives names.

From the local police to the national guard, to thousands of people trapped for days in the
Superdome and the Convention Center, it's clear that the priority in New Orleans has been more protection of property than care of people. The people are being treated like cattle and forced out of the city at gunpoint. New Orleans is not a relief zone, New Orleans has been turned into a martial law zone, which a top general compared to Somalia. The news is heavily censored---we know that five people were shot by police a week and a half ago in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The outright brutality must be stopped--Rescue, Not Repression!!!

October 22nd is the day when people all over the country come together to STOP police violence, repression, and the criminalization of a generation. In cities across the country we raise a resounding NO to their steadily increasing moves towards a police state.
