animal rescue in New Orleans - #s to call

by miz kittinz
To donate time or money, or to see updates of rescue efforts, see:

http://www.bestfriends.org, http://www.pasadosafehaven.org, http://www.noahswish.org.

Also, please call the following people/agencies, urging that animal rescue be made a priority.

some talking points (these are for calling the white house, obviously change your statement when talking to FEMA, etc.):

1) "I'm calling to express my concern about the pets still left in the New Orleans area and surrounding parishes. I can't believe they are being left to die."

2. Ask that your message that the President intervene be passed on to him. Request that the President authorize troops which are not needed for human evacuations or body collection to aid in pet rescue.

3. Ask that the President pressure Louisiana officials to allow animal welfare groups' rescue teams full access to areas where they know pets were left.

4) Ask that more shelter space be allocated for rescued animals.

President Bush: 202-456-1111 comments [at] whitehouse.gov, president [at] whitehouse.gov

General Honore: 404-469-7281 ·(ask that army not needed for civilian rescue be used for animal relief)

Also, email news stations to make sure they keep animal rescue in the spotlight. Below are some addresses:

do not call Gen. Honore anymore. I just read this on the bestfriends.org site:

"Many of you have posted Lt. Gen Honore’s office phone number and asked your fellow members to call. But the barrage of phone calls is now hampering the general's humanitarian missions, rather than helping. They are getting quite distressed and so we are asking everyone to please stop calling. The message has been received and they are acting on it! "

Attention should be focused on the White House, the governor, and your representatives.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
