Photos of Oakland "Rally for Relief"
A hundred people gathered in Oakland last night for a CodePink initiated protest to “Rally for Relief” in the wake of the Katrina disaster -- both the hurricane and the government’s response. Denied a permit for the Federal Building court yard, people gathered on the sidewalk.

This event was very useful, because it provided some political context for these events and some information from grassroots people in New Orleans
it was also a great place to talk with old friends and network with new ones. It did not, however, effect government policy one iota. That will take direct action.
that's like saying "in order to walk, I need to use my feet". You have to make the connections first. Not every damn thing has to change government policy. First, thought and awareness of how to -effectively- change government policy (networking, etc) has to occur.
Now. About that direct action. Whatcha got in mind exactly? No, don't say it here. But DO it, don't just talk about it.

Unlike ANSWER and their ilk, I'm not interested in changing government policy. I'm a anarchist. My sole interest in government is seeing it cease to exist.
