A rally outside the Oakland Federal Building, in downtown Oakland on September 7, 2005, was an organized expression of widespread outrage at the government's efforts at disaster relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Numerous community leaders spoke, with a number blaming poverty, racism, and the Bush Administration, for the government's unacceptable performance.

An “Oakland 2 New Orleans Relief Fund” was announced with the first benefit to be held at Sweets Ballroom on Sept. 18th. (for more info.: (510) 451-4661 or http://www.oakland2neworleans.com) A big concert benefit is being organized for Kaiser Auditorium to be held on Oct. 2nd.

The rally was supported by Code Pink Women for Peace, John George Democratic Club, Niagara Movement Democratic Club, Oakland Black Caucus, and the Vanguard Foundation.
