Indybay Website Orientation, Saturday, October 1st

by sfbay-web (sfbay-web at indymedia.org)
Have you enjoyed spending time at Indybay.org? Do you appreciate it as a special tool for dissemination of information about local activism and a place to have thoughtful, respectful discussions about current issues? Would you like to know how the website works? Have you thought about getting more involved? If so, then our next website orientation is for you. Learn more about Indybay.org and how you can help the site continue to be the useful project that it is.

As we project the website movie-screen-style onto the wall, we will highlight the five-year history of Indybay. We'll be talking about how to post news, photos, video and audio to the site. We'll discuss things that go on behind the scenes like what happens once something is posted to the newswire. We'll explain how and why newswire articles get moved from the "other/breaking" section to the local or global sections. We'll share with you how stories get made into center column features and what types of editorial decisions are made regarding features, posts, and comments.

The Indybay Collective's points of unity state that we are "anti-capitalist" and "anti-oppression." If these values are in line with your own, you find that the subject matter covered in the center columns of the website tends to agree with your own politics, and maybe you are especially interested in one (or more) of our "Features" pages, you are encouraged to come to this orientation. There are no requirements as far as the amount of time you have to offer or technical prerequisites. It's actually not that hard to post to or edit the site, and we can teach you everything you need to know in a relatively short time.

At Indybay's next Website Orientation, we will explain what the site is all about, how it does it, and what kinds of help we need. If you would like to get involved with Indybay.org, at any level, come by and find out more!
