Religious Right claims Hurricane Katrina is the Wrath of God

by PiratePrentice
A truly Awe-inspiring monument to bigotry, stupidity, and small mindedness. This one leaves me speechless.
HURRICANE KATRINA DESTROYS NEW ORLEANS
DAYS BEFORE "SOUTHERN DECADENCE" 8/31/05

PHILADELPHIA - Just days before "Southern Decadence", an annual homosexual celebration attracting tens of thousands of people to the French Quarters section of New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina destroys the city.

"Southern Decadence" has a history of filling the French Quarters section of the city with drunken homosexuals engaging in sex acts in the public streets and bars. Last year, a local pastor sent video footage of sex acts being performed in front of police to the mayor, city council, and the media. City officials simply ignored the footage and continued to welcome and praise the weeklong celebration as being an "exciting event". However, Hurricane Katrina has put an end to the annual celebration of sin.

On the official "Southern Decadence" website (http://www.SouthernDecadence.com), it states that the annual event brought in "125,000 revelers" to New Orleans last year, increasing by thousands each year, and up from "over 50,000 revelers" in 1997. This year’s 34th annual "Southern Decadence" was set for Wednesday, August 31, 2005 through Monday, September 5, 2005, but due to massive flooding and the damage left by the hurricane, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has ordered everyone to evacuate the city.

The past three mayors of New Orleans, including Sidney Barthelomew, Marc H. Morial, and C. Ray Nagin, issued official proclamations welcoming visitors to "Southern Decadence". Additionally, New Orleans City Council made other proclamations recognizing the annual homosexual celebration.

"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage. "From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. From the devastation may a city full of righteousness emerge," he continued.

New Orleans is also known for its Mardi Gras parties where thousands of drunken men revel in the streets to exchange plastic jewelry for drunken women to expose their breasts. This annual event sparked the creation of the "Girls Gone Wild" video series. In addition, Louisiana had a total of ten abortion clinics with half of them making their home in New Orleans. At these five abortion clinics in the city, countless numbers of children were murdered at the hands of abortionists.

"We must help and pray for those ravaged by this disaster, but let us not forget that the citizens of New Orleans tolerated and welcomed the wickedness in their city for so long," Marcavage said. "May this act of God cause us all to think about what we tolerate in our city limits, and bring us trembling before the throne of Almighty God," Marcavage concluded.

"[God] sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:45)

Gods Word, the Bible, threatens disaster on any nation that kills its own children and openly practices homosexuality http://www.geocities.com/asgold47/index.html

They have been playing up the violence in New Orleans all week as if that somehow explains why it took 5 days for aid to get in. People breaking into stores to get bottled watter since they could die of thist are potrayed as thugs while the lack of response by the federal government (with air drops of food or water) is ignored. Now they are trying to excuse Bush behavior by blaming New Orleans victims of drinking too much? 100,000 people who were not drinking or taking drugs were stuck at refugee centers without aid for days in blistering heat yet the "familly values" crowd wants to claim a few poeple having drinks gave the feds an excuse to let tens of thousands die???

For all those so called "Christians" who think this is an "act of God" should be ashamed of themselves!

Those without sin cast the first stone!
Pray for forgivness. I will be praying for you and I am a Pagan and thank the Goddess I am if this is "Christianity!"
by or does He?
these "repent" fuckers are also chickenshits -- turns out they want to talk a bunch of smack but can't deal with comments anywhere on their site

there's gay people everywhere and you could always blame it on that.

but what's different about the region, what makes it stand out from other regions in this country, if you want to look at the ridiculous God's wrath theory? maybe it's their sense of meanspirited Christian superiority and overall intolerance of those different. maybe it's that they overwhelmingly support repug politicians who only seem to understand the OLD testament hellfire-and-brimstone and not the NEW testament compassion for the less fortunate. maybe it's the regions strong boosterism for Bush, global empire, and the war in Iraq over taking care of our own citizens

or maybe, just maybe, it's just the region's location on the gulf of mexico, global warming, and decades of republican work against the common good by cutting investments in poor people and infrastructure

On Sunday, the Salvation Army conducted an outside religious service that included songs such as "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

"Natural disaster is caused by the sin in the world," said Maj. John Jones, area commander for the Salvation Army, who led the service. "The acts of God are what happens afterwards ... all the good that happens."

Meanwhile, a statement on the internet, purportedly from al-Qaeda in Iraq, called the destruction divine punishment of the United States.

The statement said God had attacked America in response to the prayers of the oppressed.
