Can someone explain why its necessary to pick on Muni? If you're a resident and ride Muni daily, get a Fast Pass! The price of a Fast Pass is NOT going up!
If you're a tourist or an occasional rider, what's another $0.25? Even at $1.50, its still a bargain.
I think there's alot more important issues to focus on than Muni.....

Kevin Keating explains why in the SF Bayview online news:
" Running Muni on the backs of Muni’s working class ridership guarantees a permanent fiscal crisis for Muni – and an endless series of demands from Muni bureaucrats for fare hikes, service cuts and contract concessions from Muni operators. If Muni riders go along with a fare hike, it will mean that the fare has gone up 50 percent in two years. A victory for management in this will also open the way for a new round of attacks on Muni employees.
A permanent fiscal crisis is built into the system. And the erosion of working people’s conditions of work and life will go on and on if it isn’t stopped by mass resistance. Collective action by Muni operators, on the job, in solidarity with Muni riders, is the only way to stop Muni management’s rip-off of riders and drivers. We can all act together against our common enemies: Muni management, City Hall and their downtown pals."

what do you mean "picking on" muni?
are we "picking on" the drivers? no, the drivers are part of the action!
are we "picking on" the riders? no, the riders are part of the action!
riders and drivers interests are represented!
are we "picking on" the ones in charge of MUNI? no! they are picking on us, by fucking us over. this is SELF DEFENSE.
and those in charge of MUNI cant fix the problem without "picking on" us, then they can step right out of their FATCAT TAXPAYER SUPPORTED JOBS, and email us. cuz for sure, we know plenty of people that know EXACTLY where to find the money to fill their "budget gap", and theyd love to be paid tens and tens of thousands of dollars in salary to lead you to it...

Besides the fare increase, which of course will affect people differently depending on their budget, there are service cuts across the board. All the major lines will have buses cut, resulting in more crowded, less frequent buses. Is it worth it now? And they'll be laying off drivers. Why doesn't MUNI look to the businesses and wealthy for its needs? They have fought hard over decades to dodge paying into transportation in SF.
People will be amassing at key junctions around the city all morning on September 1st to promote the fare strike. In the afternoon we want as big a presence as possible downtown (in particular).
Come out and help in the fight to defeat Muni fare hikes, service cuts, and lay-offs!

Its interesting that all of a sudden these "drivers" are now on the side of "justice". Any other time, they are rude, obnoxious and would call the police and hold up the line if someone boards without paying (I've seen this!).
Don't forget with overtime, many of these same "drivers" earn in EXCESS of $100,000!
Enjoy your strike, I'm still paying!

bfd, are you actually trying to undermine the fare strike by saying that some drivers are not too cool sometimes with riders, and that some make a good living for a hard and stressful job? If that's what the opposition looks like, we're in good shape. The vast majority of drivers support the fare strike because they are presently experiencing mass layoffs which parallel the service cuts. Through the mass resistance of the fare strike starting Thursday, riders are saying that their common interests with the drivers far outweigh the fact that we can all be surly and rude towards each other. And that more drivers with decent wages, more frequent buses, and an affordable if not free public transportation system paid for by the megaprofits of San Francisco's downtown businesses will make everyone a whole lot happier. And get us thinking about what's possible from there.
Have any of you "organizers" made yourselves aware of the facts? All the misinformation you have spouted makes you as bad as the idiot Bush Administration. The Gulf Coast is devastated - why don't you focus on something that really makes a difference instead of jousting at windmills?
Calling it misinformation does not make it be misinformation. Let's see some evidence.
