Viva!USA Alerts 8/26/05

1.  Viva!USA gears up for new campaign

2.  Kangaroo population continue to decline

3.  10th Anniversary video for Viva! UK

1.  Viva!USA gears up for new campaign

Viva!USA has just completed investigations of chicken farms and we plan to launch our campaign in the next few weeks, but we need your help!

We are looking for ten groups who can commit to the following four requirements:

1. Do you have a clock tower or public clock in a busy area of your town?

2. Can you ensure a few members to join you on a week day?

3. Will you be able to devote time to the campaign launch?

4. Are you ready to stand up for chickens?

If you meet these requirements, contact us at chickens@vivausa.org for more details.

If you aren't one of the 10 cities selected for the campaign launch, don't worry! This is a continuing campaign, and we will have further actions and events around the country!

2.  Kangaroo population continue to decline

The Australian government has consistently denied the impact of kangaroo hunts on the health of the kangaroo population, but recently released figures show that kangaroo populations are declining rapidly.  Populations of targeted species, like Eastern Greys, Wallaroos and Red Kangaroos, have declined over 50 percent in the past three years.  In California, to protect these animals, products made from kangaroos have been illegal since 1970.  Repeated attempts to change the law have been supported by one of the largest exploiters of kangaroos, German-based athletic company Adidas.  Go to http://www.vivausa.org/newsreleases/22-08-05.htm to see our recent news release.

Viva!USA has consistently and successfully campaigned against these bills, but we know that Adidas is continuing to lobby to overturn California law.  Another bill is certain to be introduced next legislative session--we need your help to ensure that kangaroos continue to be protected!  To stay informed on this issue, sign up to our kangaroo alert list by e-mailing roos@vivausa.org.

3.  10th Anniversary video for Viva!

Watch this online video to see what Viva!  has been doing around the world.  The international Viva! family includes Viva!UK, Viva!Poland and Viva!USA.  In the past 10 years, these groups have collectively improved the lives of millions of animals through grassroots action, undercover investigations, and legislative pressure.  From ducks to pigs to kangaroos, Viva! has successfully exposed animal cruelty and encouraged people to take a stand for the animals.  See the video at http://www.vivausa.org/Video/Viva10th.wmv
