PETAs 25th Anniversary Gala -- September 10 at Paramount in LA
The following comes from People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals. As the alert says, PETA's Millenium Gala was indeed the party of the century. DawnWatch is a sponsor of the upcoming 25th birthday celebration. I hope to see you there!

FROM PETA:

PETA's 25th Anniversary Gala

PETA will be holding a fundraising Gala on September 10, 2005 at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood. The event, a benefit for PETA's many campaigns to stop animal abuse and suffering, will also celebrate and showcase PETA's ground-breaking work to help animals which first began in 1980 with an undercover investigation of an animal testing laboratory in Silver Spring, Maryland. That investigation led to the first ever animal cruelty conviction of an animal experimenter in US history.

The Gala, hosted by Pamela Anderson and Fred Willard, will include a star-studded "red carpet" arrivals area, a cocktail reception and dinner with food provided by many of the best vegan restaurants in the country including Native Foods, Dragonfly, The Candle Café, Madeleine Bistro, Sublime, Real Food Daily and Dragonfly, lots to drink including organic wines and green apple martinis, an awards show with appearances by Alec Baldwin, Heather Mills McCartney, Dennis Rodman, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Sharon Osbourne, Ravi Shankar, Jamie Lee Curtis and many others, dancing and live entertainment, and a silent auction featuring terrific vacation packages, wonderful art, and cruelty-free gifts. It will run from 6 p.m. on Saturday evening to 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning!

People Magazine called PETA's last big LA Gala in 1999, the "Party of the Century." Like that one, the setting for PETA's 25th Anniversary Gala will be Paramount Pictures historic outdoor movie set, "New York Street." The set was where films including Breakfast at Tiffany's and TV shows Friends and Seinfeld were filmed.

Tickets can be ordered online at PETA25.com or by calling 323-644-7388. Ticket prices start at $500.

Alec Baldwin will receive the Linda McCartney Memorial Award at PETA's 25th anniversary gala on Sept. 10.

Two years ago, Baldwin narrated a short documentary, "Meet Your Meat," for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals that helped lead to policy changes at Burger King, PETA said.

The animal rights group said the video helped persuade Burger King to sever its ties to slaughterhouses that fail unannounced audits and to lend support to the Humane Slaughter Act.

The company is now working with PETA to promote its veggie burgers nationwide, PETA said in a statement Monday to The Associated Press.

At the time, Baldwin said the video "makes the case for Americans to adopt a vegetarian diet and enact humane legislation to weed out the worst abuses."

Pamela Anderson and Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders are previous recipients of the award. McCartney, a dedicated vegetarian, died of breast cancer in 1998.

Anderson, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Dennis Rodman, Andy Dick and Heather Mills McCartney are among those expected to attend the event, hosted by actor-comedian Fred Willard at the Paramount Pictures Studios.

Baldwin, 47, stars in the upcoming films "Elizabethtown" and "Fun With Dick and Jane."
