Photos from Camp Casey and Women's March to Bush Ranch

by Jeff Paterson, Not in Our Name (jeff [at] paterson.net)
CRAWFORD, TEXAS (Aug. 18, 2005): The stand off continues in Central Texas as over 200 folks from across Texas and the country camp along side the road leading to the Bush vacation ranch. Due to a family emergency, Cindy Sheehan left for California for a couple of days and plans on returning this weekend. This evening, a march of over a hundred women marched a couple of miles up towards the Bush ranch in order to deliver a basket of messages to Bush's wife Laura.

The stand off continues in Central Texas as about 200 folks from across Texas and the country camp along side the road leading to the Bush vacation ranch near Crawford. Every day Cindy Sheehan has greeted newly arriving Gold Star Families for Peace and other military family members -- and today was no different. Due to a family emergency, Cindy left for California for a couple of days and plans on returning to Crawford this weekend. Press conferences and other events are moving forward, and people are being encouraged to continue making their way to Crawford. Many new visitors are expected this weekend, including a few well know musicians and other “celebs.” This evening, a march of over a hundred women trooped up the road a couple of miles to deliver anti-war messages to Bush's wife Laura. At the final Secret Service roadblock, surrounded by a throng of media, a White House representative accepted the baskets of letters.

I was particularly disappointed by the mutt with the clearly incindiary comments "another foulmouthed liberal.' You see, at one time I might have let that one go by. Now, not hardly. This country is in the mess because of that very man, and anyone else that thinks that way. It isn't george bush, and Ms. Sheehan will have no relief even if she could talk to him since he isn't driving this bus. Further, he can't speak clearly, or even formulate sentences we expect out of fourth grade children. There are, throughout the "system" hundreds, perhaps even thousands of these sonsofbitches. This doesn't include the average American like joe shmoe in the above picture. No one seems to get it. It isn't George Bush. Though his demise would be welcome, the problem is the AMERICAN PEOPLE. I was an Army Ranger during Vietnam, and a paramedic for most of my adult life, so i get to talk about violence with the voice of experience. It is hateful in the extreme, disgusting to it's core. Having said that, there are still countless who understand nothing more than violence. They absolutely cannot be reasoned with, and they will not stop until met with violence of sufficient magnitude to halt their forward movement. Further, even MORE HATEFUL and DISGUSTING are the bastards that sent soldiers to engage in the most profound expression of insanity, warfare. The American people are not willing to ride out to dispose of and dispatch the Bush regime. In many if not most other countries, these miscreants would already be dead. But not here. Americans march and show signs, and have candle light vigils, all of which are ABSOLUTELY unnoticed by the Bush Regime. Mankind has yet to evolve to the point where pacific modalities are effective. The people who engage in them deserve honor and respect for their intentions, but not for their actions, if the intent was to bring this reign of horror to a speedy end. For that, it will take more than talk and marching and signs. Until this realization dawns on all, the killing will go on, Iraqis and Americans will continue to be maimed horribly and killed. This "cancer" requires SURGICAL intervention. Until that day arrives, nothing changes.
by about right to me

Here, here, I totally agree. Like it or not we are run by our failing right wing oligarchy - this group will commit mass murder, mass torture, or whatever it takes to enrich themselves.

I would like to give a shout out to Sheehan and her followers. I am so saddened by my generation (70/80's) we are the children of the Vietnam Vets and the women liberators yet we are weak. I am disgusted by my peer grioup accepting everything that is handed their way and never standing up for anything. We need to wake up and do something. Our parents did it, and I don't think we should give any less than they did. I thank the wives and mothers who aren't just taking this laying down. I am a daughter of a Vietnam Vet (Marine); grandaughter of a WWII Vet (Marine) and sister of a current Marine stationed in Iraq...so I am far from unpatriotic and unsupportive of our troops;p but I do want them home ASAP/NOW.

I looked through and read some of the comments from folks who support the effort that Cindy Sheehan is trying to accomplish. But, I don't see any activity or postings since Aug. 2005. What is the status? If the message is going to constantly be there to remind the politicians behind the war effort, then this website must stay current or it appears to the public that the cause is not being supported.

Best Wishes in the ongoing effort.

Bob
