CODEPINK targets recruiting stations,
will introduce resolution at Capitol Monday
calling for recall of National Guard from Iraq

SACRAMENTO – A major peace group will target military recruiting facilities
in a series of protests early Monday, and then introduce legislation at the
State Capitol calling for the "immediate" withdrawal of California National
Guard troops from Iraq.

CODEPINK – one of the peace groups that accused the California National
Guard of spying on them – said it is carpooling in peace activists from as
far away as the San Francisco Bay Area as part of its "Work One Day for
Peace" campaign.

Actions Monday will include the following:

5 a.m.  – MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) 3870 Rosin Ct
(Northgate at I-80). The facility is the major hub of recruiting activity
from Fresno to the Oregon border. Busses with new recruits arrive at 5 a.m.

8:30 a.m. – Caravan and protests at California National Guard Headquarters
and individual military recruiting stations throughout Sacramento area.

11 a.m. – Gather at State Capitol (West Steps) for lobbying returning state
lawmakers.

12 Noon – Anti-war rally and introduction of resolution calling for recall
of California National Guard from Iraq.

"We want to be where recruiters are trying to militarize our youth. We want
to be there to show them the real face of war," said a spokesperson for
CODEPINK which is calling the action a "Call in 'Pink' because you're sick
& tired of WAR" Monday.

Chico celebrates the third day of solidarity with Cindy Sheehan at Camp Casey vigil. The vigil is taking place 24/7 at Children's Park in Chico at Broadway and 1st St. near CSU. Chico's Food Not Bombs joined the vigil this weekend with tasty free vegan cuisine. There is also an on site reading library and art materials available for anyone who wishes to express their support for Cindy Shehan's quest for justice and answers in the loss of her son Casey..

Since Friday's beginning of the camp we have seen an increase in support and attendance from our community. We discuss alternatives to petrochemical dependency that is recognized as the primary reason for the US military occupation of Iraq. The local corporate media has also appeared to interview people. Simultaneously vigil supporters are becoming our own independant media by engaging in dialogue with passerbys and further explaining our positions and goals. A support card for Cindy is available for signing with a brief message..

The next few days will include possible showing of political movies. Trainings for non-violent direct action and engaging corporate media in dialogue are also planned. Info about exact times available at the campsite. Wednesday at 6pm there will be a candlelight vigil. Spontaneous drum circles and dancing could happen at anytime..

If you're near Chico, please come to Camp Casey vigil in support of Cindy Sheehan's quest for justice. This includes justice for the thousands of other US soldiers and Iraqi civilians that have lost their lives and/or suffer with cancer from depleted uranium exposure in the US invasion/occupation of Iraq. We will maintain a 24/7 presence at the Chico vigil site until further notice..
