Dear Friends,
MMWD has begun spraying roundup in the MMWD watershed as a means of
controlling certain noxious weeds including star thistle and broom.
Many Marin residents, including myself, believe this is absolutely
unacceptable.
Please join us in demanding that the MMWD stop spraying herbicides
and pesticides on MMWD lands.
Marin County already has an extremely high incidence of cancers
including breast cancer and we ABSOLUTELY DO NOT NEED additional
cancer-causing agents in our drinking water and our bodies.
Pesticides run off of hillsides during winter rains and end up in
stream and lakes, which supply our drinking water; any spraying above
the elevation of Kent Lake is therefore unacceptable.
MMWD has successfully managed broom and other invasive vegetation
with fire and other control methods for years and we would like those
methods to be used instead of herbicides.
The new managing director of MMWD used to work for the California
Department of Pesticide Regulation. From what I have seen he is
strong advocate of pesticide/herbicide use.
I personally do not trust Monsanto or other pesticide manufacturers
and do not want ANY of their products in my drinking water nor in my
or my family's bodies.
Join us at the MMWD Board meeting and tell the MMWD board that you
want them to immediately halt the use of dangerous chemical
herbicides and pesticides in the MMWD watershed.
