SF Supes: Rules Committee "Say NO to Comcast extension"

Date:
Wednesday, August 03, 2005
Time:
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Event Type:
Meeting
Organizer/Author:
karoline
Location Details:
Legislative Chamber (second floor)
San Francisco City Hall

It's on: The Comcast settlement that's been negotiated behind closed doors will be heard in the City's Rules Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, at 12 noon.

*** The hearing will be at 12 noon, not at 10 am, as we previously reported ***

This may be the ONLY public hearing on the Comcast deal -
a bad deal which will affect SF residents for the next 4 years!

Community organizations are opposed to the settlement and 4-year contract extension, which would leave SF with 4 more years of a bad 40 year-old agreement in exchange for a measly $3.5 million dollars from Comcast.
To learn more about what's wrong with the settlement go to:
http://www.media-alliance.org/article.php?story=20050617130532428

Comcast posted a 64% increase in profits! They can afford to give more. We cannot afford a contract that starves public access and ignores real consumer and worker protections!

1) COME to the hearing, bring others: Wed Aug 3rd, 12 pm - City Hall, Legislative Chamber, 2nd Floor

2) CALL your Supervisor and the 3 "Swing Votes": Peskin, Maxwell & Alioto-Pier

Peskin 415-554-7450, email: Aaron.Peskin@sfgov.org
Maxwell 415-554-7670, email: Sophie.Maxwell@sfgov.org
Alioto-Pier 415-554-7752, email: Michela.Alioto-Pier@sfgov.org
(other Supes' contact info is below)

Express your concern about this settlement. ALL the Supes are eager to hear from their constituents.
Ask Supervisors to continue negotiating for a better agreement:
Comcast can afford it, plus a one year extension is standard practice.

We want to see a public report of the Community Needs Assessment meetings the City held on the cable franchise before a vote takes place.

3) FORWARD this email to other orgs and individuals, help get the word out!

Many thanks for your help in safeguarding our communities' interests.
