Dear Colleague,
Today, August 1, marks three years since the people of Atenco and the
Texcoco region near Mexico City won one of the 21st century’s first
victories against neoliberal power – the prevention of the
construction of a new international airport on their historic
farmland. Narco News commemorates this historic day with the
republishing of our 2002 report, an extensive article in two parts by
journalist Maria Botey Pascual.
We also present, for the first time online, a documentary by Greg
Berger and Gringoyo Productions: ¡Tierra Si! Aviones No! (Land Yes!
Planes No!). Berger and his team were on the ground with the people
of Atenco throughout much of their struggle, and the images of those
months are vividly recounted in this film.
