tonight: PersuAsian party & dragonboat fundraiser

by PersuAsian
This
anniversary event will be held at Studio Z, formerly known as the
Transmission Theater, located at 314 11th Street, San Francisco, CA.
San Francisco, CA – July 1, 2005 – PersuAsian, a Queer Asian Girl/Asian
Boy
dance party is celebrating its one-year anniversary July 30, 2005.
This
anniversary event will be held at Studio Z, formerly known as the
Transmission Theater, located at 314 11th Street, San Francisco, CA.

PersuAsian is not just a dance club but an organization that takes the
lead
in bridging relationships throughout the diverse Asian & Pacific
Islander
(API) community. We foster alliances through our network and develop
strategic opportunities to strengthen the visibility of Queer API’s
within
and throughout the broader Bay Area. The following organizations are
sponsoring PersuAsian’s one-year anniversary:

APIQWTC (Asian & Pacific Islander Queer Women Transgender Coalition)
API Wellness Center
GAPA (Gay Asian Pacific Alliance)
Rainbow Koi (first Queer SF Bay Area Dragon Boat Team)
Trikone
UCSF TEPOT (Targeted Expansion Project for Outreach and Treatment)

At PersuAsian’s one-year anniversary party, we are proud to co-host
with
GAPA in presenting the Pre-Runway party, a benefit for Rainbow Koi, the
first Queer SF Bay Area dragon boat team. This night of festivities
will be
accompanied by the rhythmic pulse of Heiwa Taiko Drummers with the
lovely
Tita Aida of the API Wellness Center as our Mistress of Ceremonies.

GAPA Runway background:
Runway, at the Herbst Theater Saturday August 13, 2005 is an annual
fundraiser for GAPA: a theatrical marvel of beauty, grace, and yes,
laughter.
Rainbow Koi background:
Rainbow Koi, formed in 2004 under the sponsorship of GAPA, is the first
Queer identified SF Bay Area dragon boat team. Dragon boat racing, with
its
origins dating back to China some 2000 years ago, is recognized
worldwide.
Heiwa background:
Heiwa means Peace in Japanese. Heiwa, formerly known as Obachan Group
of
Grandma, is a female taiko group with members having an average age of
65,
with the eldest member being eighty-years old.

Our Mission: PersuAsian, held 3 to 4 times a year, is a dance party
that
collaborates with Asian based organizations/groups that support the
Queer
Asian and Pacific Islander communities and who further advance the
awareness
of cultural, sexual and public policy issues affecting the diverse API
community.

PersuAsian was created to provide a space that celebrates the diversity
of
our sexualities and culture. For further information, contact Pamela
Louie
